Gold Gym Las Vegas Closed :(

I walked up to the Golds on Sahara and Decatur today to find a sign that they have officially closed down after 16 years. There are 2 new locations opening on the north and north west side of town, but they are making them like every other health club in las vegas because that's where the money is.

Now all you guys that visit have to go to Flamingo & Sandhill or Buffalo & Lake Meade for a decant hardcore gym.

Sorry to hear that, I worked out there once and if I ever get to move to Vegas would have joined there, it's a sad sign of the times I guess.

I almost moved there in the early nineties. Had a job lined up there through a freind. Of course there was a girl involved, blah blah blah...!! Never moved there but that was a very good gym.

I"m sorry to hear that .
I joined a "new" Gold's in my area. I hate it. Cheap equipment ,lack of basic equipment, cramped. I'm paying the fee to get out of the contract and going back to the old "fitness club" again. I was really disappointed.
Always thought Gold's would be a great gym.But in my opinion It's not even a good fitness club.

yea bro, even the vp who cancelled my membership for me yesterday told me there isn't any money here in the hardcore gyms anymore, its all about the sports club. I swear if there arent 100 useless machines, pools for old timers, hundreds of balls for trainers to break peoples ankles on with "new age techniques" no one wants it anymore.

Don't ALOT of Pros go to the one in vegas...? Gold's are franchieses so the quality differs from gym to gym(I used to manage 3)

Can't expect them to keep it up no to little money is coming in. Thats like doing a job without pay. On the other hand if they where making money but have more potential in a health club than thats kind of greedy, though in the end it's just business.

There is a Golds Gym on Eastern by the 215.

I used to see Cutler at the one they just closed and I used to see Dillet at the one on eastern/215.....to be honest the one on sandhill yes its geared more towards a hardcore gym but they need to update it soon.....hell you can go to CCDC and see Titus workout....

Mike I trained at that gym while getting ready for the USA in 06. It was a nice place to train. I remember it was in a new shopping center and seemed like a real nice place.. I enjoyed training there. Sorry to hear about the loss. I had this pic taken there.

People have been moving there by the THOUSANDS every year for about the last 6 years, ( I almost did myself) but EVERYWHERE in this country right now is somewhat slowed due to the current economic downturn. I have a friend who has been a cocktail waitress at one of the casinos for 18 years now so she keeps me posted.

not a lot of people moving in anymore, jobs are slim here just like they are everywhere else, housing is probably the worst in the country. You can't drive down a block pretty much anywhere without seeing a forclosure or a vacant house for sale. Property values are almost back down to where they were before the greedy mortgage boom hit.

wasn't greed that closed the golds though, it was totally lack of profit. It was one of those places where everyone kind of knew each other because it was the same handfull of people there day in and day out. Never crowded, no machine or bench wait times, tons of freeweight, that's why i liked it but that also is why it didn't make money.
The vp said they have been trying to close it for about 2 years but were stuck in the lease so just kind of kept it afloat until they could safely get the equipment out.

I hope this isn't considered a "thread-jack", but in Chicago, there are still a couple "hard-core" gyms... Quads (north and south) and USA gym. In the burbs where I'm at now- nada

Trained there a few times with clients. Its a shame that they are closed. One of the good hardcore gyms.

man, that was THE BEST golds in Vegas! I liked the "no frills" set up they had there, but back in 05 when I was training there I could see that they were having problems...I loved having the place to myself, especially in the back where the oly and strongman equipment was

do bad now theyve officially gone "fashion show" like the rest of the punk-assed gyms in town!
