Got Two Really Great Compliments in the Gym...

Sorry for the cheesiness/corniness... but as I shared a while ago, this is pretty much the only place for me to talk bodybuilding (I work with all women and keep in my "zone" at the gym) and although my Wife is getting serious about BB now, and I sometimes post on one other board, this is really my "home" to share my thoughts about BB.

Quick preface- The past 16 weeks I decided to finally turn it up a notch and get serious about bodybuilding and my health and hired a trainer. At 6'1 (no rounding :)), I started at a bloated 250lbs and so far have "only" lost 15 lbs. BUT- I'm significantly stronger, pants are quite loose and I've gone down a couple belt notches. Finally starting to even see a couple VERY small veins in my quads (no, not varicose :)). You won't be grating cheese off my abs anytime soon but my overall definition has improved a lot.

My point is- despite these positive changes, it's always a little "weird" to not be losing weight yet (I've stayed the same weight for about 12 weeks) but still experiencing these changes (I take progress pics every 4 weeks). Granted, I know my composition is changing but at the same time, the numbers can make it such a mind game, I still ask myself "Am I improving? Am I getting anywhere?"

Main story- last week I saw a friend in the gym I hadn't seen in a couple months and he runs up behind me with this huge smile on his face, "Wow man, you lost a lot of weight!" Then today in the gym, this one guy I regularly see in the gym (but have never had a conversation with) just randomly comes up to me (I was with my Wife so I know he wasn't making a "pass" at me hahaha) and says, "Hey, you're thin now!"

These were particularly encouraging b/c unless someone is a pro or national level competitor, guys don't usually compliment other guys (men are really nothing more than mammalian peacocks a lot of times).

Again, sorry for the cheesiness post, but it was such an encouragement to me I really wanted to share it.

Well

You probably stick to a program and are dedicated to reach your goal.

Good job man..sometime its frustrating when the scale dose not go down but recomping is the best way to go.

Nice Job

I am glad you have received some recognition and reward for your efforts. Not that you were asking for any but it is always nice to know that great effort, sacrifice, and struggle are not performed in vain.

Cool story! It's always nice to get unexpected compliments, especially on things you've put a lot of hard work into. :D

I agree. Always nice to get compliments.
I've been hitting it hard the past few months and have made some great progress. I got sick in the winter, lost a bunch of weight, and fell of my schedule. Finally got motivated and have been changing things. I've put on 20 lbs of muscle and am the heaviest I've ever been (a goal for me, still lean with abs)
Finally just this weekend was at a party at my neighbors house and it was the first time in a long time but ended up having like 3 or 4 people make comments like "Damn (my name) I didn't know you were cut up like that" Actually that came from the best built guy there who obviously trains. I could see other people looking at me too. (and the fat girl kept bumping into me and touching me lol uhhhh no.)
Anyway made me feel good.

Congrats bro. I'm sure we all understand here.

X2... It's always nice to get compliments from left field. I can't seem to drop any lbs either, but my pants are looser! I tighten my belt 2 more loops in a month and a half, but not 1 lb gone

congratulations man. stick to your program to keep up the gains.

And..

You probably stick to a program and are dedicated to reach your goal.

thanks- it also means that I was ALOT FATTER than I thought I was before! haha

I don't mind if someone gives me a quick compliment, but I kind of get annoyed when they ask me all the "So what'd you do, how'd you do it" questions. One guy did that to me while I was on a cardio machine a couple days ago with my ear buds in. How do you think I did it? "Just doin this, man....exercisin....eating better and such."

And sometimes they just keep going on and on and on and they make it a real chore.

But a quick "lookin' good man, you're getting shredded" in passing by is much appreciated.

That's what did it for me actually...

Yes pictures are way better than the scale.

Yes, Its' VERY EASY to fool yourself... I have a naturally very large rib cage and at my height and shoulder width I can carry a decent amount of weight (I would say I'm ALMOST "large-framed"- my wrist measures right at 7.5"). My point is, in clothes, I carried it off fairly well. While my waist was larger, again, my chest and shoulder girth made up for it. My height helps also.

BUT- when my Mom sent me a picture of me holding my daughter as we jumped in the pool together... SO EMBARRASSED. "Wow! Do I still really look like that?" Took a "before" picture... YUP! hahaha Then I knew I couldn't lie to myself any longer and had to "get real."

good work ...

i love getting compliments...

lately i've been getting a lot about how big i'v gotten ...
i'm the biggest i have ever been b4 ...

It kinda gets on my nerves a little when some people that i know whom i havent seen in a while see me and say stuff like "damb, you look like your gonna expload ...
They kinda gimmy that look like " what the hell are you on" ? ...

Anyway bro, whatever u r doing must b working so keep at it ...
Stay away from that scale, it can be our enemy at times ...

Congrats

You sound so down to earth for sure you should feel good about the compliments you get. You put work into this result and it feels good that others notice, there is nothing cheese about it at all.
I hope you're not gonna give up, I hope you will push your self for more and more.
Nothing feels better than feeling better than ever.
Good job!!!!!!:)
