Guitar Players

I really only just discovered how good John Petrucci is, and his band Dream Theater formed back in 1985. He is only 2 years older than me so he really started the band young. Says he was at the Berkely School of Music where he met other guys and they formed the band. He dropped out of the college to pursue his dream. He made it!

Here is a great solo by him in a concert. It is from "In the Name of God". They just came out with a great new album last week. It is available for streaming on Napster. Ive been listening to the new one all weekend.

Agreed. All of Dream Theater is good. Great, not appreciated by the General
Public, band.

This young guy can play!

Musicians out there, how do people take out just the guitar track of a song so they can play along with it like this? Lots on youtube do it. I think it would be nice if I could help my daughter do this on some of her favorite songs. Id like to know how to go about it.

Some bands, particularly those with very technical music, will release instrumental versions of their stuff for this purpose. There are also programs that can isolate vocal tracks, guitar tracks, etc., from a song. I haven't used any since I was a teenager and they weren't too good then, but I bet they've come a long way now.

For some reason, alot of my favorite guitarists come from Texas. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Billy Gibbons, Dimebag Darrell, Jim Heath (The Reverend Horton Heat) to name a few....

Yeah, Ive wondered about that. Something to look into I bet.

Iv been playing guitar about 30 years. My first love. Pretty much all stringed instruments and some brass as well as piano. Came from a family full of musicians. These days I enjoy writing music singing and playing my acoustics around family and friends. The ego shredding days long gone. If I plug in which I rarely do anymore it’s the fucking blues. That’s just where I fit in. My mom asked me to play her a song last night on the web cam and I played and sang her Still got the blues by Gary Moore. Made momma cry.

Ive played guitar for around 20 yrs but just sit at home and mess around by myseld, no bands or recording.

Back to the hip hop comment, check out Atmosphere. He has a lot of albums but God Loves Ugly is one of the better ones, also When Life Gives You Lemons...

Another great album is Royce Da 5'9" The Book of Ryan. There is a song with Eminem called Catepillar that is awesome.

I also like pink floyd, metallica and a ton of other stuff.

I'm pretty sure I have listened to "Vulgar Display of Power" by Pantera more than any other album ever recorded. And yes.....I still call them "albums".

Do you listen to Gary Clark Jr? He is very good. He has a heavy Jimi Influenced sound in alot of his stuff.

I haven't heard his music. I'll have to check him out. I'm a big fan of Hendrix.

I was lucky enough to see B.B. King in concert 3 times. The last time I saw him the co-headliner was Jeff Beck. An absolutely great night of music......
