For Guitar Fans, Bucket Head

About 7 years ago one of my best friends introduced me to the music of Buckethead. I have seen him 2x now in concert and he is great IMO. I found this nice clip on youtube. If you haven't heard him give him a listen and see what you think. I think he is one of the best today. His entire show is just him up there jamming. One show lasted almost 2 1/2 hrs of straight playing. He doesn't take many breaks.

From a technical standpoint he is one hell of a guitar player, but the music itself is just not my cup of tea.

Right. Depends on what you like, but his talent is great. He can play different styles too if he wants but he usually just sticks to what he likes to do.

Buckethead is a damn legend, at least in the guitar world. Issue with him right now is that he never really focuses on making an ALBUM...like, a true album of well-planned, thought-out compositions that have a drive and purpose when all arranged in their respective order. All he does these days is jam. Which is cool! But holy crap, have you seen his discography for this year? And 2014?

In both 2014 and 2015 he's been averaging an album every 3-5 days LOL. Just simple harmonies that he jams over and releases as an album on his site. I'm not saying the man isn't hardworking, it's just that a lot of it ends up feeling like masturbation at a certain point, rather than artistry or virtuosity applied to a real, polished, final project. Same sort of thing happened to Frank Zappa later on in life.

He played with guns n roses for a while. Definitely known for his technical approach but not much for playing with feeling. He was always known for "never making a mistake." I never really got in to him. He doesn't keep my interest while watching or listening to him. He is talented though.

I've been playing for 13 years. More of a blues guy myself. Jimi, srv, Kenny Wayne Shepard, joe bonnamassa, etc.

Id agree that Petrucci is one of the best; if not the best guitarist alive today. He can do it all; very versatile.
BTW- That Andy James piece..check out 3:00-3:07 Holy arpeggio and legato tapping out of nowhere!
