I understand this is a private matter, so I would welcome any PMs as opposed to public postings.

My MD recently recommended this drug b/c I'm going through some personal difficulties. I have never used antidepressants before and am leery about doing so.

Any advice, positive or negative, would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Monte

It helped me out lots with anxiety a couple years ago. I don't recall any bad side effects. Hope it helps you out bro.

I was on seroxat for a while for anxiety attacks too and having an orgasm was very difficult to say the least

To make things worse I was single too so I had my fair share of 'long duration cardio' then :s:ar-wars

For the anxiety it worked great though

Hey man, I was on several anti-depressants a few years ago for personal reasons. My doctor told me that differant ones worked better that others for some people. Kind of like trial and error. I started out on Paxil, this killed my sex life totally. Then Effexor, I only took this one for about 3 days because the side effect of this made me 10 times more depressed than I already was. Lexapro was what I ended up on for a little while, and I must say the pro's outweighed the con's , and did'nt hurt my sex drive as much. I hope this helps bro, and good luck with that!:)

Antidepressants can often kill your sex drive, but would you rather be happy and
have a decrease in libido or miserable and horny.

gotta say the anti-depressants/anti-anxiety has helped. I am currently on Cymbalta was on Prozac- prozac worked for the depression but not as much for the anxiety.

Cymbalta has worked- feeling better- only real side effect is that takes longer to cum (but not that bad of a side effect)

One thing is to make sure you stay on them- dont get off- many things get 10 times worse when you stop- if you do stop- talk to the dr and titrate back down.

Good luck with it- many people dont go this route becasue they feel like they dont need them and things will get better without them- as you know the brain can have low serotonin, dopomine or norephinephrien and you need a little jump.

I love the stuff!

I've tried several anti-depressants and I have to say Lexapro was the absolute best.

I suffered no sexual sides, even with doses as high as 40mgs/day.

I felt much better and it also helped with anxiety.

I know you're not supposed to do it, but try getting drunk after the Lexapro has taken effect in your system...IT ROCKS! A whole new kind of buzz...it's not like being high or drunk, you'd just have to try it to see what I mean. :p

But, seriously, Lexapro worked wonders for me when others didn't.

I use it for anxiety, 20mg/day.

No sides, I feel great. I thought I had erectile problems from it, until I realised it was the tren. Came off the tren, stayed on Lexapro, got hard again :)

I use benzo's to treat anxiety

20mg of $a(i*Um

only thing that worked -- all the lexapro, zoloft, just threw me off mentally at work artistic wise and perosnallity wise too and clonapin worked the best

good ssri. i use it a 10 mg and it is very effective. Also did wonders during pct. i was mildly depressed and had a constant irritable anxious feeling. Lexapro makes me feel happy and normal. i will probably take it for the rest of my life.

Currently on 20mg a day for anxiety. Supposedly its one of the safest antidepressants on the market. Has helped my anxiety issues quite a bit. No probs with erections, but I have become a cardio man. ha.
The only other thing I notice is that I am constantly sleepy and yawning all the time.

I was a little critical of anti-depressants & anti-anxiety until I ran into problems that really flipped my life around. Overall, the Lexapro did the job it was supposed to do, which for me was to at least keep my physical symptoms from hindering my daily activities. In that aspect, I was more easily able to work out the problems. You'll typically want to take it for a period of months, because short used doesn't really do anything.

However...like it has been posted - I could not orgasm while on that stuff. I stopped taking it and about three days later I was back to normal. I'd just keep going without any luck and I hate cardio.

On a side note: the main reason I stopped was because once things were worked out in life, I actually wanted to feel the ups and downs of life again, which is something that Lexapro didn't seem to allow. You don't want to stop, though, unless recommended or directed by your doctor.

Is Lexapro addictive?

Lexapro is great been on it for a couple years now..

Not sure that is addictive in the sense that you want more and more of it.. BUT never just quit useing you will get some serious side effects.

Bro - as others have said, basically all of these drugs can have some sexual side effects. However, it will help you get a grip on depression/anxiety - and that is clearly the priority. I would recommend talk therapy as well for you to help deal with things, but the meds will get you to a point where the talk therapy can be effective.

Personally, I appear to have a few sides from this. I am tired (doc suggested taking it at night rather in the moring - why the hell didn't I think of that??) I also have a reduced sex drive. But I am - and have been on for a while - a gram of test a week, so I am probably "normal" right now. I am also on 600 mg of tren so who knows what is causing what (though i can easily get it up).

I feel much better, but I will stay on it for a while longer and it was the right decision to take it in the first place.

I may try and take mine at night too. I was told to try this by my doc. Said it might help with feeling tired throughout the day. Also, it did reduce my sex drive somewhat as well.

I was on Celexa for about three months. I didnt recognize it right away but the stuff killed my motivation and drive. I didnt feel like doing anything. I was feeling tired all the time and just wanted to sleep alot. Finally figured out that it was the Celexa. Check out this link. This is one of the sides of celexa as Im sure it correlates with other anxiety drugs.

This was me to a t. I stopped taking and need to switch to something that doesnt make me tired all the time because for me that side is worse than what it is supposed to fix. Somnolence is one of the sides of celexa that supposedly only affected 2% of the people they tested it on. I had to look it up to see what it meant.

Very grateful...

Wow, great responses. Many thanks to everyone who took the time to post or PM me. I think it says a lot about the quality of the members on this board. No rude/inconsiderate replies at all. Great stuff.

I think I'm going to give it a shot. I asked my MD about sexual side effects, and he said Lexapro is the lowest antidepressant on the scale when it comes to that. He initially prescribed Paxil, but opted against it. Apparently his other patients have often complained about sexual sides. I told him that was the last thing I needed and he agreed and penned the Lex script.

Doctorwill: your comments about the talk therapy are spot-on. My MD recommended that as well. I am a bit hesitant however b/c I have a hard time opening up to strangers. So we shall see...

Again, thanks to everyone who added their input.

Remember the old Mike Tyson? I miss that guy. That is what happens with anti depressents. He is happy now but his greatness is gone. I would not trade greatness for happiness. You will have less lows but also less highs. Not a fair trade.
