OT: Any wristwatch junkies on here?

My favorite brand is Tissot ... Swiss movement and usually less than $500 ....
Tissot line is great. Price is not important. It's a very well built line of homage watches that have unique yet good looks of whatever luxury watch the emulate.

Consider Seiko. While most know about Seiko watches for $50, most don't know about their premium line, Grand Seiko. The enameled dial Grand Seiko I am going to buy when they're available again. I wish Seiko would have named their luxury watch line something other than Seiko. But while Americans may turn their nose up at the Seiko brand, that is not so in Japan, China, (Asia). In the the USA, if you tell someone you paid $4000 for a Seiko, they'd think you were crazy. I don't share that mindset. Grand Seikos are truly unique and have excellent calibre.

I also have the Rolex DayDate but in the two tone gold/stainless with a white gold bezel ring. I love the weekday complication but usually shy away from the date window by itself. Too small and hard to read. I love the date window that shows 3 dates and obviously the middle is the current.
Two tones are all DateJust. DayDate never comes in stainless, only precious metals.
What do you mean 3 dates? You should only see one in the window.

Seiko's are just standard cheap battery watches. Grand Seiko's are proper highly crafted mechanical watches.

not a watch guy, but I will rock an iced out day just (blood diamonds) if I go out just so I can wear sweat pants and baggy shirts and still be allowed in places that are considered “fancy” or have dress codes, cause it shows I’ll spend money

Agreed (it's the stigma attached to the Seiko name). I'm a fan of Grand Seikos. But they're both under the same umbrella. Like Rolex and Tudor. This is the GS that I've had my eye on:

Man after my own heart. Great inventory mate. I love the Longines line and appreciate the Audemars collection. Those watches are the balls.
Thanks my friend, the Longines was a surprise pick up for me but with the amount of complications and price I couldn't pass it up! What can you say about AP, just amazing time pieces! I have the AP and Patek and am currently looking for a Vacheron Constantin "Overseas" to complete the "Holy Trinity of Watches".

Yeah, I have somewhere north of 100 now.

After I got my last Grand Seiko (my sixth) I sort of chilled out. I sold some I wasn't wearing for profit and kept my favorites.

20-25 Mid high end Swiss and Grand Seikos.

30-40 Seikos and Orients

20+ Gshocks

50+ high quality reps. I have a thing for older Panerai so besides 3 genuine (had 4) I have 40 or so reps and a hundred or so straps.

GS only became it's "own" brand in I think 2016. Seiko set Grand Seiko against King Seiko in the 60s to Duke it out. GS won.

GS went on to win Swiss accuracy competitions, causing the Swiss to shut them out.

I have a 1969 King Seiko for.my birth year.

I knew a low level celebrity chef who wore his wealth on on his hands and wrists. He had an amazing collection of GS. It was easily a quarter of a million at one point. I remember when he was getting divorced he told me he gave his cleaner a bunch of watches to hide for him. Fucking lunatic but nice watches.

@Big A when I say three date window, this is what I mean is my opinion that date windows are unsightly. If you want a date, do a dial. It would make all the cyclops magnifiers on the crystal obsolete. Cyclops that I also don't like. That's just my personal preference. Here is an easier date window to read:

Those are some of my favorite watches! I love that $500-$1500 space. So much competition, you get a lot of complications at great discounts.

Had a partners meeting last week and I'm not joking, everyone, even the women, were all Rolex. They looked at mine and it was a Citizen Eco Drive Mickey Mouse Steamboat Captain dial and Disney Trademarked $350. But we laughed and talked longer about that silly Mickey Mouse watch than any of those Rolex movements.

Rolex are great watches, best resale value, etc, etc, but pretty boring. And everyone has one. They pump out something crazy like 1.2 million watches per year.
I remember the old Mickey Mouse dial watches, those are actually worth a lot now for those oldies.

That's amazing Japanese engineering for ya! The Swiss no doubt were ashamed...

I leapfrogged over the last five years from a Rolex Oyster Perpetual (39mm) to a Datejust to finally a Sub. I sold the others as I went and profited each time. I really like the Glidelock band on the Rolex. It was meant to be adjustable enough for you and for you with a wetsuit, but I like how you can dial in (no pun) micro adjustments.

Very nice! Any watch enthusiast is going to appreciate GS. I know Kevin O'Leary is also a big GS enthusiast. The average American probably doesn't know the difference between Seiko and Grand Seiko.

It's interesting to me that Seiko will go all the way up to approx $1000 with automatic movements and incredible dials and complications and are great value but then there's a gap from $1000 - $3000 of no Seiko watches and where you start to find entry level GS's. And that's one of my favorite price spaces.

This was an interesting marketing method. For example, you'd never find a "Grand Casio" or a "Grand Citizen" luxury line bc those watches are value brands, not luxury. Maybe it's an East vs West thing? Personally, I like both Seikos and Grand Seikos. But I do not have a GS in my collection yet. I'm going to have to remedy that. Currently, only 3 places make intricate and in-house movements: Switzerland, China (Asia), and Germany. (with a few exceptions)

Do you ever wonder why many Americans on a budget will buy microbrand homage watches if they can't afford the real thing while in Asia they'll either buy the real thing or a clone? Maybe a cultural thing?

You don’t like watches much do you do you? 😉

Question Mr. Collector. What are your thoughts on Omega? My wife and I bought each other one when we got married 30 years ago. It is favorite watch . . . and is as thin as a quarter.
