I use to play quite a bit before bodybuilding made golf take a back seat. Got down to about a 12 handicap and was pretty good. As i started taking bodybuilding more seriously my swing completely changed. Became more restricted and playing became frustrating so eventually stopped... was probably 33 at the time...... forward 22 years and my wife and I hit Top Golf. Couldn't hit the ball square for shit. Was ridiculously tight and ending up slightly pulling a groin muscle. LOL.... we go again a few months later but this time I stretched a bit and even grabbed a club outta my bag and was just fucking around with it before leaving for TG..... still struggled with making good contact but really caught a few...anybody who's played can tell you. When you hit a ball square and it goes where you want its a great fucking feeling.... hitting an 8 about 150yds... am hooked again but wow...but what a difference 20 years makes..... my wife recorded me at the range and i was like wtf?? Its almost like im half swinging....the restriction in my body is crazy. Not gonna lie...I dont stretch. hardly at all...my flexibility is for shit plus add 22 years and yikes. Really need to work on that. IMO bodybuilding and golf dont mix very well so i dont think they'll be many on here that golf. Even if you stretch like a mother fucker you'll still be restricted to a certain degree... Bryson Dechambeau is the only pro golfer i know of that has some muscle on him. The guys hits the fuckin ball a mile.

I played for years when I was growing and had pretty much the same outcome. I played a ton when was a kid and was 2-man on my high-school team. Growing up I lived close to a private country club and ended up working there for a long time. I worked the bagroom....when members came out I would load up their clubs and clean and store them when they were done. Made good money for a kid....made alot in tips. I got to play for free whenever I wasn't working. That's how I got so good. The head professional even offered me a position as assistant pro and offered to pay for my tour school. It wasn't something I really wanted to do all my life.
I continued to play after finding my career but playing time dwindled and so did my game....lol. Got the wife into playing and she really liked it. She always say how hard the game is.....don't know what she was expecting never swinging a club in her life.
She would say 'why can't I hit the ball as far as you'? I just look at her and say 'PRACTICE' She really would get pissed when she would swing and whiff. This also gave her an excuse to buy ladies golf wear....lol.

We hardly play anymore....one because her job limits her time and two it's so freaking expensive. Years back I took my dad out on Father's Day and for both of us riding, because he couldn't walk, was $120.00.....I get it it being Father's Day but really??!!. Also its probably a good thing I don't play anymore because I get frustrated....I remember how good I used to be.

You ever have your once in a life Hole-in-One brotha?

Ha! Im going thru that now with my wife... Buying all kinds of outfits. Found a brand new set of ladies clubs super cheap on OfferUp so we're hitting the range every weekend. I even splurged and got a new set of irons myself. We've backed away from the gym quite a bit. From doing heavy ass racks she has a pretty bad herniated disc (C6-C7). She can hit a ball straight as fuck tho. She likes it alot and ive got that itch again...But like you, i get frustrated...especially knowing that i was pretty decent...

No ive never gotten a hole in one... in fact, i cant even say ive been close.... i think 6 inches away is the closest ive been... I love it though.... hitting a good crisp shit is amazing... just can't seem to replicate the same swing...choppy as fuck.... sooooo frustrating. LOL

Love golf. Now that I've been back hitting the gym hard and that I'm no longer natty, I too worry about getting to tight and stiff for my swing. I've never been a great golfer but I've had stretches where I could fool some into thinking I was. Best score is like 78 or 79. I've had one round where I was under par after 9 holes.

So far swing still feels pretty good and I'm ready to get playing again after winter layoff. Weather has been nice the past week or so here and I did get my first range session in. Can't wait to get a round in soon.

I live off the 18th hole fairway (a million dollar view so they say), in not gated private country club. People always ask me if I golf. I don’t. Never have. Don’t plan to. Just loved the house and the view. I can tell you that after years of observation, the practice swing is seldom, rarely the same as the swing that hits the ball.

It’s so much a mental game, but of course you know that.

I always enjoy the first few holes.

Then I get pissed and am ready to be done 😂 I’ve done 18 holes probably a dozen or so times, and god is that a long day.

You outta try it...lol.... catch a good one and you'll get hooked...lol.... living in South Florida there are a ton of golf courses to choose from... I grew up in NYC nowhere near a golf course. Moved down here and took it as a course for community college and it was over.... I grew up playing baseball so it connected quickly for me...Its funny tho. I could hit a 90 mile an hour fastball fairly easily. Hitting a fucking golf ball straight thats just sitting there is harder IMO..... its the hardest game IMO... Plus i love the greenery. There are some gorgeous courses down here... but it has gotten pretty pricey..

Me too. Im such a head case out there... Once i start playing like shit ill pull out a bowl and smoke out.... fugg it... lol

I hate golf and golf hates me. Had a good friend years ago who was a pro and said he could teach anyone how to play pretty well, after 2 days on a course with me hacking up lumps of grass and losing balls all over the place he changed his mind.

Have you seen the Robin William’s bit on golf? It is priceless!

Happy Gilmore now there’s something golf related I enjoy.

I enjoy playing golf...although I like to go out in the evenings in the summer and tee off in just enough time to get to that 9th green with just enough daylight to finish! The courses around here typically aren't very busy at that time and you can get through 9 holes pretty quick. I also have a few buddies that play too and we'll usually do a 4-man scramble or two every season. I used to be obsessed with distance off the tee but as I've grown older it's way more fun to hit it shorter but straight! :D Like mytreefiddy, I'm pretty tight in all of the muscles used for a decent swing but I've worked around it pretty much. Last summer, I bought a set if the Cobra 1-length irons and I LOVE having the same setup for all of my irons! Definitely more accurate and hitting them straighter.

I wish I was good at golf because I think I would genuinely enjoy it more

And I do enjoy it but usually when I play with some buddies we just do “best ball” style and play off that because otherwise we’d be there all day tearing up the greens with our horrible swings.

Definitely take a lot of time to perfect the technique. Kind of like lifting—form matters a ton

Form is EVERYTHING. Size means NOTHING. I was next to this kid last week at the range..... This kid was probably 19-20 years old.... 140lbs the MOST. Wow could this kid hit a ball...Effortless fluid swing... He pulled out the driver and I swear.... I couldnt even see the ball land thats how far he was hitting it.... I look at his bag and it said Barry University which is a Div II school down here...his buddies walk over and they all start launching..... so impressive to see. They all looked like lil kids.... all pulverizing the ball... The LIV tour is coming here in a few weeks....gonna go watch em.... never seen an event live...only on TV
Ive had to change my swing as i just dont have the same range of motion.... feel like an old man out there... I hate it....ive taken some time away from the gym but now id like to return and work on golf specific exercises... aesthetics dont mean shit to me anymore...im gonna focus on function from here on out..... anybody have any exercises to improve my game???

Actually, i retract my question. I should have known better. Ive done so many broomstick twists back when i was competing its not even funny. Im just so freakin rusty. Need to get back to doing those. Some cable rotating twists and i should be good to go...

Yea.....if ya got back problems....golf ain't gonna work. I had my 'once in a lifetime' hole in one years ago......179yds 6 iron.....I don't even know if I still have the ball......lol. I almost had a 'Double Eagle' once which is more rare than a hole in one.

Well.....keep swingin' my friend. I know people who absolutely suck at golf but had that ONE good swing that made it go in.....thats all it takes.....one good swing.

These guys on TV make it look so easy.....WTF....lol.
