ok this is in regards to my mother. alright she has had all kinds of trouble with her thyroid. now her creatin levels are elavated. she is taking t4 from the doctor. any ideas on how to lower the levels. modern medicine can be crappy at times some of these damn doctors are just stupid. so any of you guys on here had this problem, and what did you do to solve it? also does any one know maybe what type of doctor would be better to see than a basic family doc.

Have her see an endocrinologist. Increased creatine leves can mean many things. They can raises just from exercises or physical exertion.

PERSONALLY

Have her see an endocrinologist. Increased creatine leves can mean many things. They can raises just from exercises or physical exertion.

HAVE HER GO SEE A NEPHROLOGIST..........IT IS CREATININE LEVELS......KIDNEYS.....THAT HIGH IN YOUR MOM IS NOT FROM WEIGHT TRAINING.........MY GOD , HAHAHAHAHAHAHHHA

ok thanks guys ya it is definetly not from wieght training. she started to train a good while ago then stopped due to lack of time. she is needless to say not devoted to training, plus the thyroid problem. i will pass those suggestions on to her. could diet possibly come into play? she does eat very clean, white meat, veggies.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here.....

Tell her to stop front loading the creatine.

Are you sure it was not ceatinine. It is hard to believe she has high creatine if she is eating naturally and mostly white meat.

Was that in blood or urine?

that was from a blood test. possibly the creatinine that you mentioned. the more reading i do that seems to come up more and more. really i dont know, and she does not take any supplements other than what she gets from the doctor. for a while she was taking a wierd herbal blend she got from the house of quacks. one of those places that promotes lack of exercise to lose wieght. so front loading is not a issue. i am just writing what she has told me in the hopes that some one on here had a tip. i passed along the doctor suggestions. thanks for that guys.

Don't be sarcastic. I told him to see a doctor(Endo). She should see the endocrinologist first to rule out if any hormonal issues is causing somthing since she has a thyroid issue instead of jumping conclusions and about kideny diseaese and sending her to a nephrologist. Yes higher creatine levels is a sign kidneys may not be functioning up to speed, but not nessassirly a sign of a kidney problem. I was not referring to weight training. I was referrig to any physical excertion. We don't even know how high teh creatine levels wre. if they were significantly high or what typ of creatine levels he is talking about. High CK levels are a sign of muscle damage for instance and very high elevated levles for prolon periods are a sign of a myopathy, but hey you know more than me Phil to mock me.

I have a 9 year girl who recently with high creatine levles. It was from her attending summer camp and not use to doing anything than just sitting on the sofa palying video games.

yes i do not know how high the levels are. also this is a legit question in regards to my mom, not me so please no more front loading comments. if physical exertion can cause this problem perhaps back ground would help. she runs a day care center were she lifts children of varieng ages and weight all day. also she works with special needs child who weighs well over 100lbs. i am just looking for any thoughts here. i figured some one on here may have had this problem so legit advice is welcome. thanks guys.

My intention was not to make front loading comments, I was truly concerned and wanted to make the point slight variation in hormonal responses and physical exertion can affect creating levels and it is a symptom of many things not necessarily a kidney disorder and disease and the need to see a nephrology right away. DEHYDRATION alone can cause high creatime levels! It could just be a temporary thing that showed up. The doctor who did the testing probably should have sent her for another test to see if they remained high. He needs to R/O any general issues and If it continued the next would to refer her to a specialist. That would be usually the procedure unless the doctor seen something else that was a major concern.

Is she on any other drugs like statins etc. or start any other new meds. They can increase creatine levels. How old is she. I would have the endo rule out anything first then if there continues to be concern send her nephrology. Thyroid issues can alter creatine levels.
Have the treating doctor R/O and anything and if it is still a concern have him make a referral to a specialist.

thank you for the article. the doctor she sees is a moron who throws the c word out very loosely. he has thrown a bunch of random things out there recently. now this so i am looking for a bit of better advice than some of the moron doctors around here. seems a specilist is always a better way to go. thanks again.

well

dehydration can cause high bun/creatine ratios............doc...............JUST GO SEE A NEPHROLOGIST rather than a GP. Or............you can just ask dragonfire more questions......

Well that the thing we don't even know what type of creatine levels this doctor tested for!I assumed she was seeing an Endo for the thyroid issue not a PCP. Thyroid storm can cause high creatine levels and she just started a thyroid med. Specialist is always better. A PCP is suppose to be able to R/O what type is needed though through additional blood work. An interanl medicine doctor usually makes for better PCP. Alot of these PCP these days are APRN and PA's because the offices are so busy.

Change the PCP to an internal medicine, have her seen by an endocrinologist for her thyroid and have her get more blood work and if it comes back with significant abnormalities regarding creatine and other indicators of possible kidney dysfunction send her to the nephrologist.

Then again we don't even know what type insurance she has. The PCP she is seeing may need to validate sending her to a specialist with more blood work and testing so I would request it if this is the case.

1 kideny! She should have been seeing a specialist for as long as she has known because that can be serious. I have two children on my case load who have 1 kidney and they go for testing every month to the specialist and have VNA services in the home at least 1 time a week. I not saying she needs VNA services, these children are 1 and 12 so I have them in the home for the parents who are not the best adovoactes for their childrens medical needs.

ya i had no idea she only had one till the other day. long story short didnt really meet her till i was eighteen. didnt start getting to know her till a few years ago. its a process, now all this stuff going on i want to be helpful but am a bit out of my league.

ok didnt forget bout this thread just got new info finaly. well it is not cancer of any kind. so that is a plus was not a big concern but ya know. she goes in again for another battery of testing with a kidney specialist next week i believe. so in a few weeks or what not i wil update this again. sorry for the long delay in a update guys.

What actually is the problem. I though she had kidney issues and or 1 kidney. Where did the cancer testing come from?

uh ya that is a good question. honestly dont really know. her doctor throws the c word out alot for some stupid reason. cancer does run in the family two types both for women. so far my mom has not had any problems there. unfortunatly though the doctor gets cancer happy or some thing i dont know. i guess better safe than sorry.
