How soon for squats,abs after hernia surgery?

I had double inguinal hernia surgery almost 3 months ago, it still feels tender from time to time, I have a very physical job and went back 7 weeks after surgery, and for the most part it doesn't bother me that much. My question is for those who have had similar surgery, How soon after surgery did you go back to doing heavy squatting and abs, Should I wait till all pain is gone? I heard some horror stories about guys that went back too soon. Any help would be appreciated. God bless you guys. Minister.
