Ibuprofen and gains/fat loss

The deal is that I screwed up my hip pretty good. My doc told me to rest it and to take 3X800(or maybe it's 600)mg Ibuprofen ED for 6 weeks.

I have no problem with resting it (OK a little problem), since my legs are my leading bodypart, but I'm concerned that I'll lose muscle and/or gain fat all around taking Ibuprofen for that long. I'm doing a careful balancing act with respect to fat/loss muscle retention right now.

Damn, this has really got me down. I've been working so hard and being so strict on my diet, getting to the edge of the shape of my life...not anymore.

Anyway, I already know what the studies/literature say. What are your real-world experiences with this? Is there going to be a difference that I can tell? I have a rebound carb up coming, will it hinder my gains? Will my fat loss be hindered?

Anyone with real world experience, your input would be very appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm with ya bro....nursing a torn biceps...doc told me I could handle 3200mg's of ibuprofen/day 800mg's 4x day for ten days also take two extra strength tylenols with first and last dose for first 4 days something to do with boosting the effects then off the Tylenols because of liver. It's really hard to keep from getting bummed out I did'nt realize how many exercises you use your biceps on....I can't even squat. Good luck!

Ouch! That sucks, bro. At least I can still work most upper body exercises (I just have to limp to them). Hopefully after those 10 days you'll be able to get to full leg workouts at least.

It was two months ago....really screwed the pooch this time.......I'm afraid its gonna be a long road to recovery...

Its been almost 3 months since Ive been off the gear, and every week I pick up a new injury. My knees are the worst victims, and Im on Voltorol which is a better anti imflamatory than Ibroprofen. Wheres good old deca when you need her?

I've decided to quit with the anti-inflamatories for right now, since it doesn't appear that I'm going to get confirmation that they won't hinder the progress of my other body parts.

I may have good news for both of you guys, though. We'll just have to see.

Y'all are probably familiar with Bodyopus by Dan Duchaine. If you are, then you know that the workout prior to the carb up is done with very light weights.

I also remembered from a long time back that super slow-mo exercise was getting results at least for some. I've decided to combine the two to see if:

A) I could train ultra light and super slow and still get some decent work with my bad leg/hip. It's sort of a rehab style workout, anyway.

B) I could get a quality supercompensation and resulting anabolic response this way.

The answer to A is a resounding yes!!! I used lighter weights and slower reps than I can remember ever using, but sure enough I was able to train with almost no joint pain and get a half decent pump for being carb depleted. I was doing single leg presses with 40 and 50 lbs for example...no kidding.

The answer to B will be forthcoming soon...I'll keep y'all posted. Hey, if the guys from the 60's and 70's could get huge on D-Bol doing sets of up to 100 reps, it's got to be better than sitting on your butt, right? If I can get results I don't care if it takes a few weeks longer to heal!

Gravityfighter, could you curl 10-15 lbs really slowly? It's not a full tear, right? I mean you weren't talking about surgery.

Wolf, if this works I'd bet it would be 180 change from what you usually do, you might get a growth spurt while injured...wouldn't that be the shit?

BTW, I'm using Bodyopus as a dieting tool right now, but there are many CKD's with high calories for lean mass, if that's where you are...and a supercompensation is a supercompensation regardless. BTW, I forget who it was that got all those BBer's off gear for the Titansports spinoff back in the 90's, but high calorie CKD is what he used, and some of those guys still looked damn good!

Dilge,

In this instance the SuperSlow approach would be a good one. Yuo can minimize stress on the hip, and at the same time work the muscle.

This idea actually came out of an osteoporosis project that Nautilus did back in the 80's. It was a good protocol for that patient population and rehab, but has been fairly worthless as a bodybuilding approach outside of this.

Best wishes on a speedy recovery!

Super slow is what I'm doing.Strict form on machines only. Good luck!

P.S. I find I can sort of make the weights as heavy as need be this way...it's hard to explain....but seems to be working.

I think I know what you mean. I believe that used to be called concentration or intensity (before intensity was defined as %max), but you make the weight feel heavier by flexing the opposing muscle group at the same time as you lift.

BTW, my supercompensation worked. Not spectacular by any means, but definitely a good one. Even my jacked up leg plumped out. I'm pretty pleased considering my condition.

Dad,

I agree with you on the fairly worthless part. I never did give it much merit...in fact I never even tried it. Extenuating circumstances now I suppose.
