Well heres the situation... i dont have health insurance at the moment... i get it from my job very soon, but right now dont got it so i wanna avoid the doc if at all possible. Maybe i can get a diagnoses here...

OK so today i did chest. Did a bunch of sets pretty heavy incline smith, no pain and felt pretty good. Next up (yes im an idiot cuz i read how bad these are) i did weighted dips with 125 DB around my waist.. and i went deep (moron). Felt ok tho cuz i was gettin 10 reps, i coulda sworn my form was fine and i was hittin chest, yet not much chest fatigue... kinda like i felt it in the armpit. Next i shot for incline DB press on a low incline. Ok so i knock out 110s no problem 12 reps... figure il use the heaviest DBs we got (pussy gym) 125's. I got them 12 reps last week no prob so i figure its all good, though i realize i was probably fatigued from the earlier sets in my workout. First rep is fine, 2nd rep at the bottom i feel a little twitch (now i know iv read 99% of tears the person felt a problem and ignored it) me like an idiot feel really strong so i keep goin, 3rd rep i hear a ton of CRACKLING (sound you hear when you crack your knuckles) right in my pec/delt tie-in (iv been told muscle tear sounds like a shirt ripping.. i didnt hear that so i dont think its the muscle but could be wrong). Dropped the DB's left the gym went home n iced it. No discoloration. Now i dont have much pain at all just sittin here, i can even roll the chest muscle n flex it. When i try to do a pushup tho, theres the pain. If i press my bicep into my chest n squeeze, hurts again (only position that hurts when i flex it).

Now its 5hrs later, still zero discoloration and no pain except what i described above. Did rotator cuff movements and no pain again. Im banking its the lig (if it was the muscle there would be alot of bruising right?) If i could try to describe WHERE the pain is... id have to say its underneath the beginning of the front delt or right where the pec meets the front delt. No pain at all when i push on it, only pretty much when its flexed in a stretched postition or press the bicep into the chest n flex tightly.
 
Im sorry to hear that , hope you have a nice and quick recovery.

Oh and maybe nezt time youll learn your scrawny ass shouldnt be hadling 125lb Dbs:rolleyes: :D
 
had the same exact thing-

a couple of months ago lifting too heavy- didnt pop, but crackled like a rip sort of- it was tendons or fibers I believe- it wont bruise, at least mine didnt - and in about 2-3 weeks youll be perfectly fine and now i am lifting heavier than normal-weird. dont fret it youll be ok in a week.

Interesting you mention the crackling / tearing sound without any pain or loss of motion while performing your set - this was my EXACT problem when doing super heavy pulldowns a few months back.

I pulled down with the stack and heard a "crackle" in my right bicep. No pain, ignored it. Another rep - this time a TEAR. Felt scared, no pain though, stopped.

Did one other exercise just to see if I'd feel ANY type of pain - nada.

No discoloration, just some limited motion. The area was just beneath my armpit where the bicep meats the chest.

It took about a week before I was able to do heavy pulldowns again. But that's fine - I got super strong on bent over rowing. (Also discovered I love these best for back anyway)

My bicep strength increased and now it looks as if my tendon actually STRETCHED out on that side of the bicep. No issues since. Wierd.

So fear not. It's probably a severe tendon stretch that pulled a bit too far. Once it heals you'll now have a bigger muscle - DoggCrapp would be proud (lol)
 
Sounds like you tore your pec but not a complete tear. In other words, either part of the tendon was pulled from the humerus or part of the tendon was severed from the rest of the tendon. You may not see any bruising or discoloration for up to 10 days as if the bleeding is deep and minor then it takes a while to make it to the surface. In any event it does not sound like a major tear and I would keep icing it for the first 48 hours to help with healing. I would also not do any heavy chest movements for a while. You should be able to do light to moderate resistance but pay attention to your body and if something doesn't feel right then don't push it.
 
when i tore my pec it was like velcro tearing,but i still think the way you desrcibed it you tore your pec.sorry to tell you that but i think you did.the blood will drain and maybe show up in other areas like your elbow or somewhere else on your arm.if,and i doubt it, you dont have any bleeding then maybe you are in the clear.i had the 140's when my went and i almost dropped the damn dumbbell on my head.i had an 80% tendon tear right off the bone.when i got up i felt the muscle retract downward and i could put my fingers right through my shoulder and almost touch my back cause there was no tendon there.hope things go well.

My situation doesnt sound anything like this. I can still feel the thick ass tendon there in my armpit and where my chest meets my shoulder. I read all over the internet and looked at possible ways to identify a pec tear. Still looks and feels like everything is in place. I think it was almost definatly the tendon, muscles dont crack they rip and sound like a shirt tearing or velcrow as you described. I just hope it wasnt that bad. Im going to lay off chest back and shoulders completly for 2 weeks, hit arms lightly 2-3 times per week, keep up with my cardio, and do whatever leg work i can (probably mostly leg press).

Now that i think of it i heard this sound when i hurt my knee 3years ago wrestling with my friends. He twisted my foot and i heard my knee pop like 8 times same exact sound. Went in for Xrays and the whole 9 yards... turned out to be exactly what you guys are sayin now... i really hope your right.. but if i remember correctly the pain didnt complatly go away for months. We will see very soon.
 
Could be a rotator cuff. Id look into that.
 
I've had this happen 2 times to each side of my chest. It sounds like a severe strain and not a tear. I never had discoloration either, just iced it for 2 days and didn't train chest for a week. But now I'm always paranoid it'll happen again. As soon as I felt the little twitching/pulling in the muscle I stopped immediately.

Well I have first hand experince with this if you dont bruise I wouldnt worry about it. You probably didnt tear anyhting, more than likely its just a sprain.
Dont worrry about goin to the doc even if you did tear it unless you want to have surgery to reattach the muscle.

If its swollen ice it. Then dont train heavy for a few weeks do enough to get some blood flow to the area.

I tore my pic about 7pm on a monday and by 10 the next morning i had a bruise the size of a dime wear the pec connects into my shoulder. That progressed into half way down my arm and clear across my chest.
 
just wanted to add one thing.if you tear the muscle it will be almost impossible to fix cause my doc said muscle doesnt attach to muscle very well.if you tear a tendon then it can be fully repaired,they just tie it back down to the bone(hurts like hell) my point is if your having this problem in the muscle area then take special care.if its all the way in where the tendon attaches to the bone its better.i have 2 friends that keep slightly tear the muscle in the upper pec region and there is nothing that they will be able to do for them if the muscle tears there.my doc explained it like trying to stitch 2 steaks together.sometimes it holds but mostly it wont.i lost 20% to my upper pec cause of the muscle pulling away from muscle when my tendon went.i hope you heal soon and ddint do too much damage.dont try and go back too soon.and for gods sake stay away from flat bar bench.thats where everyone usually starts the injury then it can tear even with dumbbells like mine.

Seriously, by now, you would be writing in pain and have like 10% range of motion when you tried to put your arm out to your sides. You'd also have excessive brusing and localized pain. It's a severe strain, to be sure, but nothing has torn. If it did, you'd be in pain right now. But you're able to function, it's just a bad strain. DONT BE STUPID NEXT TIME. :)

I dont think he's stupid he was just training hard. Whats funny is when I tore my pec it turned black and swole up twice the size as the other side and I still wanted to believe it was just a sprain lol

I went to the doc and he tells me to take off my shirt... He had this look on his face like he was goin to scream like a little girl ha ha. Then he starts bringing in all these people like I was some freak of nature lol
 
THANX FOR ALL THE SUPPORT EVERYONE. You kept my head calm n cool. Its two days later, 6:45am headin out for cardio.... still zero bruising, no muscular pain i can even flex my pec n jump it haha. Just the lig hurts... your all probably right just a bad sprain. It still hurts doin certain things like a pushup or picking up a box, but pretty much theres no pain. Much relief, and i will be much smarter next time. thanx again everyone
 
I SCREW UP SOMETIMES AND HURT MYSLEF.

THE THING I HAVE LEARNED IS THAT MOST OF THE TIME IT IS VERY AVOIDABLE. ONE THING THAT HELPS IS TO BE THINKING THE WHOLE TIME. DON'T RUSH ANYTHING AND KEEP THE LOWERING PORTION OF THE LIFT SLOW....

I HOPE YOU RECOVER QUICKLY AND STAY SAFE. YOU SHOULD VISIT WITH YOUR BOSS...DIDN'T HE HAVE A SIMILAR INJURY LATE IN HIS CAREER?
