In the hospital for the weekend .....

ok here is the deal...I have been having some serious acid reflux the last week....the pain has been getting worse and worse, to the point that even water cause me to have acid reflux...but in the E.R. they did a bunch of test and my EKG came back all out of wack...they also said my heart wasnt functioning at full rate (at about 40%) they said it could be a virus around the heart...or it could be my gall badder (sp?) or even my pancrease (sp?) (my emzimes were tad high)...So honeslty they dont know yet, and are keeping me overnight to monitor me to see what happens...to determine if its my heart or my G.I. (ulcers)...I hope its nothing more than my acid reflux, versus my heart....I guess we will see what happens tommarow...Honestly right now all I can think about is all the crap I have done the past 15 years to compete in this sport...Even though I havnt done higher doses until these last couple years...It makes me think....No matter what, my family (grace and sarah) will always come first...

Sounds like that 40% is your ejection fraction. A few of us on here had that experience. Did you have an echocardiogram, thats how they see how your heart is functioning. BTW, when I had my heart attack it felt like I had acid reflux. Not triyng to scare you, but thats how mine felt. I had my heart attack at the gym and actually drove home and tried to sleep it off. I thought it was just acid reflux. Im sure if yours had been a heart attack they would have picked up on that though, unless it was one that happend several days in advance but even then there would have been signs I think.

COuld be cardiomyopathy. I tried to blame mine on an infection, but found out that after I got off the AAS my heart returned to 55% which is normal.

well thats why they are keeping me overnight just to make sure...I guess its a good thing im in the hospital...I was actully thinking of discharging myself and going home for the night...and then going to University of Iowa hospital to get a second look...but im glad I stayed here for the night...whatever it is, this might change things in my life a little bit...I guess we will just play things out and see...All I have been thinking about is my little girl grace...

Yeah, this kids make it all worth it. I made sure my wife got my two little girls in to see me in the hospital both times I was in because I thought I may not make it out. I wanted to see them one last time. The first stay I had with the heart attack was really scary. They couldnt keep my blood pressure high enough. they pumped me full of dopamine to raise bp and also salt water(ringer solution). They also had me laying upside down in my bed to get the blood to rush down to my brian so I wouldnt go unconcious.

How is your BP? Did they do an echo on you and thats how they got the 40%? Sounds like it. As far as the EKG, if you had a recent heart attack (MI) you will have inverted T waves. Thats the last wave in the sequence. It will point down rather than up. Its a negative deflection. Thats the one thing my EKG showed when I went in during my heart attack. The inverted T wave will hang around for a few days after an MI.
