Insulin degradation

Everything I read says that insulin is no good after 28 days. I got some Humalog 2 months ago via mail. I used it for 4 weeks, took 4 weeks off, and I am using it again now. I took 10 ius pwo and followed the same carb protocol as i did last time, but didn't feel the same mild hypo symptoms i had with the previous cycle. My question is; is the insulin completely worthless? Am I more resistant? Or is it just degraded? If it has degraded what measures can I take to take full advantage of it's effects?

ps. it has been refridgerated the whole time

i think its bullshit that its degraded anything significantly after 4 weeks... ive used the same bottle of humalog for 3 months and it kept about same in effects.
respect,

There should be an expiration date on the bottle. If it is made by Lilly there will be a black box with white writing indicating the month and year of expiration.

Insulin could lose some potency after that date but its not likely. It should continue to be effective many months after expiration and still be good a year later (with less potency) IF it is properly stored in the refrigerator.

Cloudiness is an indication that the insulin is no longer good and should be thrown out.

Lilly doesn't want to be sued so they say:

"...Regardless of the storage method, Lilly recommends that a vial of insulin in use be discarded after 4 weeks. Studies evaluating stopper leakage in vials of Humalog, Humulin, and Iletin indicate that the vials have sufficient resealing properties to maintain a good seal after 100 punctures."

In fact the stoppers are awesome IMHO and IMHO for all practical purposes the insulin will be sufficient for non-diabetic use for a lengthy period of time.

i thought of this too when i was searching for info,,,room temp/fridge or not they say 28 days is the max

im taking a month off and will reuse my humulinr that was stored in the fridge from day 1, i doubt its going to bad but will report back if i see anything diminished

i have my slin in a personal cooler whick i put a ice pak in it every day to keep cold and some days i forget to put a new ice pak in it, so it might go to neary room temp, but then i put the new pak in so it's being refrigeredated agian, was wondering cause i forgot often to do it everyday with it going from refrigeredated to room temp back to refrigereated if that temp change would effect it much even thoe its only room temp for no more than a day?

I ended up using it for 4 weeks. It definately still works, it just seemed to degrade a bit. I tried going up to 15iu with 100g carbs immediately after and about an hour later, before i got my next meal, I started losing vision. So I would say just adjust your plan a little bit.

Insulin does not go bad for a very long time keep it in the fridge an you should be fine take it from someone that has to medically use it everyday.
