once opened.... how long is this stable? I have had a bottle open since summer of the long acting novolin, storage has neve been above 75 degrees, always in dark shade, it seems hit or miss, sometimes overdoses sometime under dosed .

anyone have experience using old insulin?

28 days once opened is the standard listed period it’s good once opened. I’d toss it and get a new bottle.

I have used insulin many times long after opening it and it's worked just fine. The pen I have now has lasted me about 1 year and it's been stored out of the fridge and it's still gtg. If you are in the US and can just go and buy it locally for cheap then it makes no sense to risk things especially because it's insulin. Nevertheless, most things last much much longer than what is listed but for insulin you want it to be 100%.

If it is novolin N just make sure it is very well swirled/agitated. It is a true suspension and less than thorough mixing will give uneven dosing.
