Lingering pains from a stinger

I was sparring muay thai about 2 months back and at one point i was coming in to throw a close lead left hook and at the same time the other guy was going for a leaping elbow (just the motion). he ended up landing on my left shoulder which pulled my left arm down strongly while at the same time it jerked my head to the right very fast. i instantly had a burning pain that shot down my arm and into my hands. followed by serious pins and needles on the whole arm. then numbness in the fingers. after about 3-4 minutes my arm was ok and working relatively ok.

then about 3 weeks ago i was carrying my daughter across the grass and stepped into a pothole with my left foot which caused my left side to drop fast and hard. again i got an even more painful stinger. it lasted longer and hurt more.

well now i have this constant slight numbness in my arm and fingers. almost like my arm fell asleep. and i cant sleep well most of the time. at certain angles my arm does fall asleep completely. and then its pins and needles. like right now, typing this, i got sudden pins and needles in my left hand.

anyone ever dealt with something like this before? how long before it went away completely?

I have had many injuries similiar to this, due to years of submission fighting. It sounds as if you have a nerve issue, and depending on the severity of the injury; will determine how fast you will heal. I have had this last as long as 3 or 4 months. You need to get an mri done to see whats going on. I have had success with massage, and electrical stim/tens, and of course rest. Good luck

Go to a chiropractor. Preferably one that specializes in sports injuries. You most likely have a few bones whacked out of place in your C and T region and it's putting pressure on the nerves running to your left arm. Usually a simple fix, no more than 5 visits if the chiro is any good and honest.

Try massage & spinal decompression. Chiro is great too, but make sure you've got a proper chiropractor with very good hands, not a flake or some mangler...

thanks guys. im nervous as hell about a chiro. the idea of it freaks me out. but i am going to try it anyway. i am doing massage now and it hasnt really done much yet. chiro hopefully will seal the deal.

get ready for the possibility of it never going away. i suffered quite a few stingers, and i have transient tingling and numbness in my fingers and occasional pain.
