Any of you guys ever had/have lowr back pain? mine is absolutly killing me. It always hurts, just sometimes more than others. This morning was legs, and later today i had to lean my forarms on the sink to wash my hands b/c i could not bend over at all. When showering it was very painfull leaning slightly foreward just to grab the shampoo. I do not bend my back ever, especially when working out.

So do any of you guys have any insight? or how i could go about figuring out what is causing this? If i can find out what the problem is then i will fix it.

A few possibilities i am thinking are that my hams are not up to par with my quads; possibly my abs are underworked (i have never seriously trained abs, when i lose the abs i just drop some fat.) and that might make my lower back muscles be overworked; another thing it might be is that i dont stretch.

so i dont know, it annoying as hell. when i was in the shower i was like damn i cant grab the soap now how will i be when im 20 yrs down he road...

I really appreciate ANY advise or input..

OH Man I m the king of back pain. Mine started when I had a water bed and then a couple of years ago I got in a wreck, which made it much worse.

Have you had any accidents? (recent or old)

How old is your mattress? ( I just changed mine and after one night I had no back pain all day, which is a first in over 15 years)

Try back stretchs to strength it (kind of like a cat stretching)

I ALWAYS get real bad back pain as soon as I start wearing a belt with my jeans. No belt, no pain at all.

i think i may give you a run for that crown bro!
No man, never had any serious accidents, and actually got a new mattress 2 years ago. What back stretched do you recommend? I tried laying on my back w/ one leg straight and pulling the other knee to my chest, and feel it stretch my glutes the most..

Big A:
I'll give that a try, i have heard that somewhere before.. and I wear a belt almost evryday of my life.

thanks for the replies so far fellas!

I get the pain bad too. I think most of the time though it is when I am on cycle, and I think it might be gear related.

I used to have bad back pain.. chiropractic treatments and buying a tempurpedic bed (I got the 8" classic) mostly fixed me.

I also spent several months targeting my lower back with hyper-extensions and deadlifts.

I only wear a belt in the gym for my heaviest reps in squat and deads.

YMMV

You might want to talk to a Doctor if the chiropractic Doc doesn't find anything misaligned.

I had 'chronic' neck pain from injuries that was 'cured' by acupuncture (pain was gone after 1 treatment after suffering for 8+ months.. and i'm a skeptic)

again, eastern medicine doesn't always work but when it does its amazing

I know what will probably help you. You need to stretch. I had a very stiff back and had trouble getting out of a chair into a standing position. My lower back was always sore. I started stretching and within a few days my back was fine. Lie on a mat and stretch your legs and back. Give this a try for a few days and repost your results. I am sure stretching will solve your problem. Good luck.

I have a tempur pedic cover laying around, ill start using that, its probably about 2 or 3 inches thick.

Deadlifts helped you? man if i did deadlifts, my back would hurt so damn bad for the next few days!

I guess ill go to the chiro soon.. Also two of my friends do acupuncture very regulary, wont hurt for my to give it a try.

Thanks again to you guys who have replied!

I bet your right because when I stand and try to touch my toes (the hams stretch from 5th grade) My back is so stiff that the pain makes it to where I cant seem to relax my lower back and let it stretch out.

appreciate the help!

edit: I have that trouble from sitting to standing, just that slight lean makes me have to use a free hand to support myself getting out of a chair. like my grandad.

Would you mind suggesting some stretches? I am really in the dark on stretches.. :/

I used to take karate and we stretched a lot, so I do all the stretches that I learned in the classes. Probably the best thing for you would be to google stretching and you will find all different stretching exercises, and would probably understand them better than me trying to explain them. But basically it's bending over and touching toes type of things, and do it sitting down, stretching out the lower back and the relief will come very soon, within a couple of days. Hope this helps.

yeah.. mine was mostly muscle imbalance/fatigue once I got my back adjusted by the chiro. strength training has really cut down on my downtime

Try bending over and touching your toes. Also the best one that will work form me is lay on your stomach and act like your doing a push up, but don't lift your hips off the ground. Trunk twist may help as well. I went to a chiro for a while an it helped, however after I quite going it came back a little. I did not stretch during this time period and I m thinking this is the reason the pain came back.

Thanks to all of you guys for the help! I'll report back hopefully with some good news in the next few weeks.

I am an L-4, L-5, S-1 sufferer myself. If I ever do box squats again it will only be with the bar!

I use and electric stim unit when is gets really bad. Visit your Chiro for regular adjustments. Heat and stretching always seem to help too for me, but thats just me. I still try to bury my squats as much as I can (even tho that mean Mainevent tells me they aren't deep enough and to do them again, and I do partial deadlifts instead of full range. Just make sure to see a Chiro and if it doesnt get any better get to an osteopathic medical provider and check about an MRI to see whats going on.

I'm telling you, the stretching will work and will only take a couple days to notice the difference!

I got an inversion table; one of those boards that lets you hang upside down. Not a miracle but definatly helps a lot. I use it 5-10 minutes a day, the key is you have to use it even when you are feeling ok, just as preventative maintenance. It's saved me a ton of dough at the chiro.
