I just bought an ultra fast system & installed McAfee. I've been a Norton guy for years, but read that the mcAfee was a better program. However, I swear that McAfee is slowing down my computer. Everything takes longer to do. Sending emails, opening up browsers etc. Has anyone else had this problem with McAfee?

Yes this is true. McAfee does take a little bit longer than Norton. I know you were a Norton fan, but neither one of those are top notch. In fact, they are behind the times compared to scanners from Europe, etc. If you want something proven to be good, try www.f-secure.com. Also, nether one of them are compatible with Vista, yet F-secure, Sophos, AVP and most of the other scanners are. The ones I mentioned also handle rootkits but McAfee & Norton still do not.

Yes Alan, rootkits started in the Unix world and are getting more and more popular on the Windows side. It is basically a kernel level driver that makes it so the user interface will not be able to get a handle on the rootkit's files, registry entries, etc. and hence the user cannot see them to be able to remove them. Sensing these rootkits and disabling them is a whole other problem.

Vista at this point is not prone to any rootkits however. But time will tell if someone can find a way to exploit.
