Two of my teammates Killed in Action (KIA) 2 days after I was wounded.
Jim Ahearn was my Team Leader and my roommate on that deployment. Keith Kline was my Communications NCO.
The roadside bomb was a 20lb plate that tore through Jim in the passenger seat, took off the leg of another teammate up in the turret of the vehicle. Then tore through Keith who was driving. Keith replaced me on that mission that day.
Jim had an18th month old daughter with his newlywed wife that he actually met in Baghdad in 2003 and brought back to the USA. July 5th 2009 was the first time she was able to visit his gravesite on the anniversary of his death at Arlington National Cemetery as a U.S. citizen.
The bracelet in these pictures is the one I presented to his now teenage daughter this past October when a building on at Ft. Bragg NC was named in his honor. His Gold star wife and daughter can be seen in the right side of the picture.
We remember.
