It 2017, we know now all calories are equicaloric but NOT equimetabolic. Hormonal response to nutritional substrate influences the metabolism of macronutrients, this is irrefutable and measurable. Now the microbiota has bee shown to have a measurable influence over net caloric absorption. Two people can eat the same meal, but the bacteria in each individuals body will influence the number of net calories that the body receives, with the rest going to said bacteria.
