After reading this article Alleviating Congestive Heart Failure With Coenzyme Q10 - 2 - Life Extension back in January I decided to take CoQ10/Ubiquinol again, but my previously poor ejection fraction levels were while taking 200mg Ubiquinol so I wasn't too hopeful and wanted to see if it was even worth the cost. The CoQ10 test was expensive ($100 each) but I figured if this was a long term supplement and these tests found that this QSorb (supposedly more bioavailable than regular CoQ10) was as effective as Ubiquinol then it would save me a lot of money over the long run.
Well, that is not what I found lol so here it is.
2/6/16 (10:35am):
-No CoQ10 for 8 weeks
Coenzyme Q10, Total: 0.73 (0.37-2.20 ug/mL)
3/15/16 (11:06am):
-500mg CoQ10 (QSorb) for 5.5 weeks. Last dose the previous night.
Coenzyme Q10, Total: 1.85 (0.37-2.20 ug/mL)
-3 week washout period
5/28/16 (7:41am):
-500mg Ubiquinol (Jarrow’s) for 6.5 weeks. Last dose the previous night
Coenzyme Q10, Total: 4.96 (0.37-2.20 ug/mL)
Some flaws:
1. I used the ubiquinol for 1 extra week due to lack of ability to get to a blood draw location
2. washout period was 3 weeks and since it's fat soluble perhaps there was still some slightly raised level from the previous Qsorb usage
3. My Ubiquinol testing was about 3.5 hours before my Qsorb testing (7:41am vs 11:06am) so the last dose was slightly more recent.
However I doubt those are significant especially when looking at a roughly 2.7x higher level from the Ubiquinol.
Just thought I'd share my results in case some people were on the fence about which to choose. I will also point out though that Jarrow's Ubiquinol is actually 3.15x the cost of Puritan Pride's Qsorb so one could argue either way....though I wouldn't want to take 10-15 pills of just Qsorb per day.
They also obtained levels twice as high as mine in the link I posted above, so who knows if that's due to lack of potency of Jarrow's or just my individual response. I'll probably continue this until my next cardiac MRI in September but it's got a hefty price tag.
