Hey all,

I am a competitive bodybuilder who recently joined a powerlifting gym. So I started training with the power guys and doing heaps of new exercises to improve my core lifts.

Is it normal to be so sore after doing those bands and chain type exercises ? I am dying here and I have been dying every since I started this kind of training. I think it has to do with using more or different kinds of muscle/tendones for stabilizing and for explosive force...Coach swears I will grow and it will go away but how is that when we keep increasing the weight and doing different workouts and doing the band and chains ?

Does this mean that I am the wuss they keep calling me?

The coach has lost the plot and gone mad.:)

Band training can produce severe soreness and is dangerous if the tension is too high. It's something that needs to be introduced gradually especially with the upper body. Nothing will fry and screw up your shoulders faster than too much tension on the bench.

my new training program..

Ok Thanks....coach says that I am recruiting new muscles and tendons for these kinds of exercises where the load is changing...also says the movements are new and that the combination of it all is what is giving the soreness. He did mention something about not using to big of bands too even though I feel I am ready for it. So at least I know now that it is a real soreness and not just imagination.

Thanks for your comments.

I was a bodybuilder for several years with good gains but when I made the switch to powerlifting last summer I really grew so I dont doubt that you will too.

well first if he said ure recruiting new tendons, id seek advice from another coach
second, too much tension will fry ure CNS, i gradually worked up to massive amts of tension, and to be honest, it didnt do a damn bit of good for me, work on speed, explosiveness, and form
frk

too much tension will fry ure CNS

Could you explain why that is?
IMO, to your body tension is equivalent to straight weight the only difference is that the load changes over distance. Alot of tension should be no harder on your CNS than alot of weight.

because its increased constant negative tension thru the whole range of the movement, hence why it in turn helps you
but too much is detrimental to the CNS as i stated esp with moderate bar weight

Is there a such thing as a powerlifter friendly gym?New to me!

Powerlifter & Muscle Builder

My gym is power lifter friendly.....they even support a team and hold events there! To make it even more awesome...they let bodybuilders train there (as long as they dont get in the way of course...and show they are trying to learn something about power lifting).
