My Physical Therapist told me everyone needs at least 20% bodyfat to be healthy!!!

That is bullshit. He must have 20%. I am a 43 yr old PT and have 8% and feel great. I don't know how anyone could make such a stupid statement and for guys WTF.

Yeah, thats high for a male. Women average about 18-20% dont they?
 
Women do average in the high teens to mid twenties.

I sometimes think people justify being overweight with statements like these to fool themselves that they are healthy and happy being overweight. Its easier than doing the work to loose it and maintain a healthy diet.
Yeah, sounds about right. I can't see how someone would shoot for 20% and say "I'm the ideal bf% and am as healthy as can be.":confused:
 
I dont know for pure health but for looks I would say 15% or less. I dont understand the correlation she is trying to make either. 15% BF cant be healthy? That doesnt make sense to me. Lower BF usually means that everything in your body is working more eficantley UNLESS you have a predetermined genetic condition I.e. diabetes or heart issues
 
MORON. Guys like this make Physical Therapists look bad. Most are well educated and excel in their field.
 
That's funny. I wonder what his BF is? He probably thinks that the Olympians eat at Micky D's while training for an event too.....Well maybe the curlers! Just the typical human response or excuse for being lazy. That's fine and dandy for his lifestyle....but maybe he should keep his false opinions to himself!

Most guys on this board are pretty educated on nutrition so they feel all athletes must be also.Not true at all. Then the athletes that do eat well, do so during certain times and all meals are prepared for them. That other thread about the Mcdonalds in the Olympic village and people think it is all advertising? lol.That Mcdonalds is fully functional and being used.
 
maybe he mistook you for a long distance oceanic swimmer? Having a higher bf% serves them well because they are more buoyant and use less energy to stay afloat. ;)
