Nutrition/calorie question

I have a question about a friend and her nutrition...

She is looking to loose 20 or so lbs. Should she figure her BMR and total calories based on her goal weight or based on her current weight minus 500Kcal/day? She's working out with weights 3x/week, and doing 30mins cardio 5x/week...

that's what I think too, but she's having a hell of a time dropping any weight. think she's actually eating more than she thinks and sabotaging herself but she won't admit it to me/herself.

i'm not sure about her, but i know that a lot of women that i've seen cheat constantly on their diet. they will have little snacks throughout the day and not count them towards the diet...
 
if she is never getting hungry then she is not creating a calorie deficit.
 
she mentions that there are times she doesn't want to eat her evening meal, even though, at that point, she would still be sub-maint. on her calories...she was one of those people who, when you added up her calorie intake over the average day, was eating too little and yet was still overweight. I added some calories, moved some macros around and she's not losing weight.

Either she's lying to me (and herself) or she has some sort of thyroid problem...

This could very well be the case, it's not all that uncommon. Have her get bloodwork done to check.
 
Yeah, i told her to ask her Dr to look at her thyroid because she works hard in the gym and is way better than 20lbs over weight with her diet as far as I can tell...

On a side note, I want to mention Shelby that since I've heard you mentioning carb cycling, I've done some research and dropped 40lbs and 6-7" off of my waist while keeping most of my strength. Cheers for the inspiration!

tell me about it, my wife has been this for the past 6 months and just admitted it.... i knew it the whole time though lol
