DETROIT - The man with family ties to the Powerhouse Gym franchise is charged with murder. He's accused of killing a young woman and then threatening the family after her murder.
The brother of the victim, Diana Demayo, was in 36th District Court as new details emerged about her suspected killer.
Wearing a Powerhouse Gym sweatshirt, the son of the gym's founder was formerly charged with first-degree murder and torture in the death of 23-year-old Diana Demayo.
"She was a sweet girl, and it's a shame this had to happen," said Matt Demayo, Diana's brother.
He was in court as the prosecutor detailed how on March 11, Peter Dabish called 911 to report a drug overdose at his Detroit apartment, but when police arrived, they found Demayo covered in blood and blood all over Dabish, as well.
Hours later, Demayo was taken off life support, and further investigation revealed she died after at least eight separate blows to the head.
Matt Demayo seemed physically and emotionally drained as he left court.
"I'm totally numb. I got nothing to say," he said.
Dabish's mother was at the hearing and offered to put her home and her mother's home up as collateral to bond Dabish out of jail. That request was denied.
Dabish has a host of other legal issues. In cities in Oakland County, he's been charged with assault, malicious destruction of property and marijuana possession, and he's been held in contempt of court for skipping his court dates.
FOX 2 has also obtained a 911 call after Diana's death to report a threatening phone call from Dabish, who allegedly said the following to Matt Demayo.
"And the guy told him, 'You killed your sister. I'm going to put a bullet in your head,'" a woman said on the call.
Dabish's mother and attorney left court without speaking to reporters.
Dabish remains in jail. His next hearing is April 20.
