So I went to see my chiropractor the other day for my back and we discovered that part of my problem is that I have plantar fasciitis pretty bad. He wants me to get some custom insoles for my shoes but they cost 255 and I don't want to spend that kind of money if I don't have to. Does anyone have any recommendations for insoles that work well, and also, what lifting shoes work the best? I lift pretty heavy and don't do much cardio, just about 5-10 minute warmup before lifting. Thanks

I wish, if you find out let me know my right foot is a nightmare.

Guys I had the same problem due to very poor arches and weight distribution. Those shoe insoles that they custom make for you are 100% worth the $350 bucks. I promise, your feet will quit hurting, your knees will feel better, your back will feel better, it's probably the best thing my chiro has ever done for me

How did you "discover" you have plantar fasciitis? Plantar fasciitis hurts extremely bad. I would think you would have noticed this beforehand? Insole can be helpful, but not if your chiro is just trying to fleece you

Did he talk to you about how it may realign your back?

Fasciitis is very, very common, especially with athletes.

I too have the same problem, I am sure it will do wonders for you, but after further research (my own) and speaking with a chrio who is friend, I opted out.

Not sure how bad you have it, but if it helps your everyday activities, the $$$$ should not matter.

I had if very bad a couple years back, only in my right foot.

Stretching, ice, etc helped some. Didn't clear up totally until I bought one of those boots you strap your foot/lower leg in when you sleep. Couple of weeks with that and it cleared up.

Finally something I can speak on...

I partially severed my right big toe (open fracture) in a martial arts test and was in a cast and it happened right in the middle of my cycle. I ended up with plantar fasciitis. $500 for the insoles. And holy shit it hurts to start wearing the inserts, get ready!

There's a store in my area called The Good Feet store. They have tons of inserts from $65 (supposedly).

The custom inserts I got from my doctor are awesome. Problem has gradually gone away. The cause is tight calf muscles and the muscles between the calves and heel. Stretch those calves! I had done a calf injection the same day it happened, thus...

They are for life bros so if you stop wearing them it will come back. Wear those inserts for everything. Running, biking, walking, lifting, fucking (yes I put sneakers on to fuck my wife:eek:), and kicking ass.

Also severe cases like mine can take a year or longer to get down to manageable pain level. Stretch the calves.

I had it really bad in both feet that was manifested from running with compartment syndrome in my calves. My doctor recommended leaving a towel by the bed and using it to stretch my feet before getting out of bed. She said it had to be first thing before getting out of bed and walking. The pain has gone away but also I'm not running anymore since I left active duty. It took a long time to disappear even with doing calf raises. Anyway maybe look into some inserts that aren't retarded expensive and stretch your feet first thing before getting out of bed.

I had this and it was brutal!
I almost got inserts, I used to roll out my arches to alleviate the pain.

I ended up fixing it. A lot of your feet and arch stuff has to do with your calves.
Just like a right lower back is many times indicative of tight hamstrings.

I took a lacrosse ball and smashed it into my calf. Trying to search out lumps and areas in my calf that were tight.
I found a small area that was very painful to roll out or "smash" with the lacrosse ball. I started digging into the painful part of the calf. It killed.
I noticed that after I stopped, my arches and my Achilles and all that felt relaxed.
I kept doing it like 4 times a day. I even got bruising, like you get from a torn muscle.
After about a week, the plantar fasciitis was gone and has never returned.
I got the idea from watching or reading something by Kelly Starlett.
Anyways, it fixed me. You may want to check it out, because that plantar fasciitis sucks!

If you have hardwood or title flooring in home and go barefoot this will cause a flair up also.I started wearing house shoes and haven't had a problem since.

The problem with the insoles is that once you start using them.. you cant really stop without the problem coming back.. I broke my foot pretty bad last summer and when I started to walk again I got really bad plantar fasciitis. I'm away from home for work and the chiro here tried to sell me on them.. but after his "alignment tool" work on my back (basically clicked some 30lb pre-load spring device into my back six times and called it good) I kind of got the feeling he wasn't very good and was only out to collect a pay check.. so I called my chiro back home and he told me if I can get away without using them then to stay away from them because they create a dependency and you'll rely on them for the rest of your life.

What worked the best for me was rolling my arches with a frozen water bottle and also rolling my calves with a knobby foam roller.. And when you're rolling don't actually roll but find a spot that hurts like jeebus and camp on it for 2-3 mins with maybe a small rocking motion and roll from side to side a little. Hit everywhere that hurts.. check out "musclewhispererjosh" on instagram he has some really good info on how to roll to fix plantar and tons of other stuff... going for deep tissue massages will also help because if they're good they'll torture you far worse than you would do on your own haha.

To sum it up in a few words.. try to fix it on your own so you're not stuck having to deal with the insoles for the rest of your life. Best of luck!

You don't need to spend that money on that stuff. Buy Aetrex brand sneakers and shoes worked wonders for my foot issues until I discovered curcumin which pretty much fixed me.

I used to wear these around the house until bed time. My foot dr told me to wear them as long as possible while at home. Told me soft slippers are worthless and I needed better support. I also bought dress shoes from Aetrex.

They are a God send for people with major feet issues. Prior to wearing them I would walk around almost crippled in the morning and when I'd be out working or what not and on my feet too long.

I had PF for quite some time til I finally went and talked to a specialist. I ended up getting something similar to this:
Night Splint Plantar Fasciitis? Plantar night splint and Achilles tendonitis splint
and it helped tremendously. Also, he gave great advice...
1. Before you take your first step out of bed have a tennis ball or can of food or something to roll your foot on for a few minutes.
2. Stretch the calf muscle for a few rounds.
3. Stretch during the day when you can.
4. Put a water bottle in the freezer and when frozen, roll your foot over that for awhile letting the coolness help with the inflammation.

He said a lot of PF issues is caused from the Achilles and calf being too tight and walking on flat surfaces for long periods of time can cause inflammation.

Hope this helps. tons of videos on youtube about helping it.

Agreed. I had this repeatedly when I was younger, and when you have it, you know something is wrong. Shooting pains in the arch of your foot.

it's hurt on and off for quite some time, but it has usually just gone away after like a day or two. I know it's weird but this is the best chiro I have had. He took an electronic foot map thing and that is how it was confirmed.

thanks for all the advice! I will look into the recommendations! The chiro told me that my back issues were due to short hamstrings and since I have started stretching and working those more, my back is much better but my ach. tendon/PF is taking it's sweet time to improve.

Great posts fellas, I have it on my right foot, my left foot the arch collapsed and is internally pronated, I stand ALOT on two different jobs, cardio, leg work does the rest.
I have years of abuse to my calves and from what Im reading breaking up the calves with some aggressive rolling and stretching the achilles seems to be the way to get some relief.

I have tried every thing for mine. Inserts are a waste of money. Even had shots of cortisone. The only ting that worked was a night splint. I had immediate relief after one night's use. After about 1 month of using it every night I no longer have any problems.

I suffered from this badly for well over a year. I switched over to some New Balance 890v3 and my feet have NEVER felt better. Its absolute pleasure to walk in those shoes.

I had this problem a couple years ago. So bad I was having trouble walking any distance without pain. Make sure your shoes are up to date and not worn. I bought some hard plastic insoles at a runners shop that offer very good arch support. I didn't pay anywhere near that custom-made price.

Also, get a bottle of water and freeze it. When it flairs up, put it under your foot and roll it back and forth under your arch. All this It completely fixed mine.
