Plate Holder Pin

Anyone know a site that sells those pins that you put in a weight stack and let you allow to hang some weight plates on? Allows you to add weight to all weight stacks...

I ordered one from Gym Tech months ago but they never got back to me.

I doubt there is anything "generic" out there. You might check a post by
Oldfella dated 5/30/07. He made something specific for his gym. It might give you an idea to have something fabricated for your needs.

Absolute genius, never thought of this either. Good one. Those stack holders / pins seem to be a commodity in my gym as members fucking steal them.

Go to a local metal,welding shop and they can most likely just make a couple for you out of some scrap metal. I use to have the welding shop make things like this for a old weight bench and had some squats racks made.

Funny, you bring this up .I just made one today at work.I did'nt see on anywhere so I made it.Took about half hour.

I just take a long ass bolt that is just the right diameter and put a little duct tape on the end to eliminate slippage and bam, depending on the quality of the bolt, I've had as much as three forty fives on that lil guy.

That is, until the owner of my gym told me stop jerry-rigging equipment because it "intimidated other members." Um... Okay.

I always just took another pin out of another machine or stack if it didn't have the little cable attached and stuck it in about 1/4 the way down the stack. Most hold 2 (45's) not problem however it does slightly bend the pin and the plates have fallen off before so make sure the area is clear.

I agree with ya. But I think this method needs to be revised, I've had pins snap before.

BrooklynBB, I started doing that years ago and now the gym I go to has them in some places cuz you can get screwdrivers cheaper than the pins. J.R.

That screwdriver idea is great! A nice big phillips head. That's something you could just put in your gymbag too. I gave up my tricep pushdowns long ago because of this problem.

By the way - I love this thread. We are such fucking meatheads! Nothing like saying to someone in the gym, "Hey bro, can you give a spot?" He says, "Sure, what are you doing?" You say, "No. It's not for me... spot the machine."

yea you definetly have to watch the extra added weight to those cables they will only hold so much

I actually had a minor eye injury due to this. I had my training partner stand on top of the stack on a pullover machine and on number 6, BANG! It's nasty too-when those cables snap all the tiny steel wires fray....Another reason to stick with freeweights.

I thought oldfella had a pretty good contraption just for this but it wasn't a bolt...I think it actually hooked over the top of the stack. Only thing to worry about is the load on the cables. So, I like OTH's scenario to get a brave guy to "spot the machine."
