Post-workout neck pain, any ideas?

This happens especially after shoulder workouts... I feel some kind of fatigue/heaviness in the back of my neck (between the traps id say) and the pain is so bad im forced to sit down at a table and rest my arms/delts/traps for a good 5-10 mins. Lateral delt raises seem to be the worst exercise, but I feel this to a lesser extent even after back workouts.

I hate to bore people with my personal problems but I dont want to see a doctor about this just yet and im sure someone here will have something intelligent to say. thanks
 
any tingling or numbness ever associated with the symptoms?
 
My wife gets neck pain after work outs but the only thing I can think of for her is she tends to tense it quite a bit when going heavy. She hasn't seen a doc yet either, maybe its time.
 
Sounds like you have a disc out or even possibly a rib. I'd go to a Chiro and get a quick crack and alignment!
 
I had that same problem, especially after heavy leg days and shoulder days. I went to a Chiro and got my spine and neck worked on then went to a massage therapist and got a deep tissue on my back and a myofascial release on my hams, havent had any problems since.

Yeah I get neck pain from shoulder workouts and sometimes back workouts. Anything that hits the Trap area gets me. Whgen i overdo it a bit I actually get a bad headache the next day and it's just from the strain of working out. For this exact reason I usually only do my shoulders on Friday so I don't have to go to work with a headache. It really is a pain in neck ( ha ha ).
 
It can also be a bonespur near your shoulder. I have that. You'll notice because one shoulder sticks up just tiny bit more. I'd get it x-rayed if it consists. I live with mine just fine, just deal with the hurt. And by the way -- it wouldn't kill you to be a little nicer instead of being a jerk.
 
SOunds like some sort of impingment going on beneath your traps. When you do lateral raises do not shrug and do not try to take your elbows above your shoulders. Most try to lift too heavy with side laterals and sacrifice form, they engage the traps too heavily at the top of the movement. But I would say you have some issues in your cervical spine that may need to be looked at. Get some xrays and see what's going on.
 
I also have a constant soreness where the traps meet the back.
