What are your various opinions on pre-workout nutrition? Post-workout nutrition is discussed a lot, but I wondered about the other.

I get up at 4:30 AM, and am usually at the gym by 5:15 AM. My last meal of the day is usually fish by itself around 8:00 PM, and I just wondered if trying to drink a small shake right when I get up benefit me. I of course have a shake immediately following my workout.

If so, what would you guys recommend? Whey, Casien, Blend?

Thanks for any input.

in my opinion if you do not eat protein and remember this is not just pre work out but breakfast as well for you amino acids will not be in the blood and any amino need that is required due to the work out will mean muscle will be broken down to supply those aminos until your'e post w.o drink. There are two points you have not considered
1. Carbs pre workout for energy and cortisol control
2. carbs pre workout in relation to fatloss

I have always been the type to get up, and go train without having anything. It is usually during the last 10 minutes of my workout that I would mix up my protein/carb drink to consume for post-workout.

I then follow that about an hour later with a solid meal. I had been toying with the idea of having a small shake with skim milk right when I get up which is about 20-25 minutes before I train.

I could never go to the gym without eating. The only thing I have enough energy to do before eating is walking to the kitchen

i train first thing in the morning as well. i have 1 serv. of whey protein, 1 serv. of amino's and l glutamine before i leave the house. also i scoop creatine.

I workout early mornings and rarely eat anything. You don't want your blood in the digestive tract breaking down food, you want it in your body fueling the muscles you're working. It's not like you've been fasting and are without any glycogen or fat stores.

I will always eat a meal about an hr befor training, usually something fast digesting as you dont want the blood in the stomach working to process food, you want it in the muscles. I will eat about 100g carbs and 50-80g protien. I have been toying around with a whole bunch of supps pre workout also, with excelent results. a lot of this is from th anarchy stack if any of you are familiar with that. here it is

5 grams taurine
1 1/2 g acytl l carnatine
2-4 brams of potasium citrate
15-20 grams essential aminos
2-3 grams carnosine
1 1/2 gram n acytl cystine
100 mg idebenone
5 grams leucine

this has changed my workouts so much i cant even begin to describe the effects to you guys, it decreases the burn to almost nothing while training, this is probably the most profound effect i have noticed along with all the anti ox. benifits these supps offer. i also take a simular cocktail after traing to increase recovery time!

I just wondered if not eating since 8:00 PM the night before would put you in a catabolic state that could be detrimental to your workout. I typically find it hard to work out with something in my stomach, but don't want to shortchange my efforts either.

I would throw in some free form aminos in the morn if you guys are training on an empty stomach, the body need these aminos, especially if you are a low carb guy and havent eatin in 8-10 hrs. the body will go catabolic. I cant train unless I have at meast 2 meals in me! I just dont pump up at all and am starving

RMTT,
I also workout in the early am. I drink coffee, take 10 mg of L-Glutamine and 15 ml of liquid L-Carintine in a glass of water, and sometimes 10 mg of D-Bol. This is about 30 -45 min before workout. I also drink lots of water during my workout.

I've also heard about how to help natural HGH release, you can't have much of a blood sugar level. I hope I am getting some release during my squat/deadlift day. Who knows?

However, I don't think it would hurt to have a little O.J. and/or some pre-digested liquid aminos such as Twinlabs Amino Fuel liquid.

Good luck

twin lab amino fuel is crap. its not a free form amino and is the same as taking in like a cup of milk or a 15g scoop of cheap concetrate protien. get a free form essential amino like amino explode from pinnacle or order some from bulk nut. in powder form.
