PUTTING ON MUSCLE WHILE LOSING BODYFAT....

I have a really good foundation of muscle already after years of training, yet I have let myself go a bit (too many fried bologna sandwiches, I guess) and am at around 21% BF and in desparate need of trimming down. Yet on the other hand, I want to get stronger and build more mass. I was wondering if a low-carb diet would accomplish both of these. Has anyone ever tried doing a cycle of anabolics/androgens, maintaining a high calorie count, and taking in a more than adequate amount of quality protein to gain mass while at the same time following a low-carb diet & taking an ECA stack along with doing low-intensity cardio? What would happen?

From a layman's perspective, it seems that the high protein would be sufficient for muscle-building, while the low-carb effect of ketosis would have a fat-burning effect. Am I wrong? If so, why?

I think this is everyones goal. I am working with Phil and so far as long as I stick to what Phil tells me... It is working.

I personally feel this can be accomplished. Train 3x per week dc style. On those 3days have high carbs, moderate protien and no fat. Then the other 4days have very very low carbs, high protein and moderate fat and do cardio. You will be burning fat those days and maintaining muscle/possibly growing on the carb up days.

On a side note, i think it would be very very difficult to build muscle with a low carb diet all the time.

The easiest way I've found to achieve this is to stick with a low carb plan as you would while cutting but add carbs around your workouts, both before and after. This works best for me when training early, allowing me to taper carb intake later in the day. Keep protein high as you mentioned. As far as how many/what type of carbs work best, that will vary by individual and require some experimentation. Days off from training will stay with the low-carb plan.

How about EFA's (Omega-3 and Omega-6)? Would you try to keep fats as low as possible and cut these out, or would you keep them in? Also, how lean (or not) would you keep your meat protein sources while going low-carb?

EFAs are important no matter what type of a diet you're on. I supplement 10-20g fish oil daily. On low carb days, it's important to keep fat intake high enough to support your energy needs. Almonds, coconut oil, macadamia nut oil, and even olive oil are great sources of fat on lower carb days. Don't be afraid of a little bit of fat from red meat as long as you're not eating outrageous portion sizes. I prefer 93-96% lean ground beef or some of the relatively lean cuts of steak (shoulder london broil tends to be a decent choice).

One of the biggest diet mistakes is to cut out all fats........EFA's are exactly as labled....Essential Fatty Acids..........the key word Essential. This means your body does not manufacture these and must be introduced through diet. To cut out EFA's will spell disaster for your diet and muscle building goals. Unless you are ingesting absolutely huge quantity of EFA you will not get fat from them. DO keep those in your diet!

EASILY possible with a sound diet. even easier with AAS.
give phil a holler.

Why have "no fats" aren't fats part of the muscle building macro nutrients as well?

I done this many many times with clients. Gaining muscle has nothing to do with losing fat. The body can and does do both very easily.

It is great to see people that know this can be done and have also experienced this.I have seen soooo many posts on this board and others where people state you must either be cutting or bulking.

Do it every year in prep

You can definitely do it easily.

I took some time off and was eating like complete shit, completely revamped my diet, began training more structured, and doing cardio, i dropped like 5-6% bodyfat oin 2 months and added somewhere around 5lbs of muscle.

I've actually just started this protocol. I'm doing a keto approach on non-training days and a nutrient timing approach along with DC training on training days. Good results so far and feel damn good too. No aas yet, and still making good progress! Just be sure to do cardio in a carb-depleted state for maximum fat loss.

wow magnum

Gaining muscle, losing fat easy? I guess all the years of Muscle and Fitness diet and training has me stagnant, because I do neither easily.

How about going hardcore in "supps" in each direction, both with building mass and cutting? IOW, what would you say to running AAS along with the typical "cutting" stuff such as T-3, clen, ECA, etc., while all the while still maintaining a high protein and fat (good fats, that is) ratio in a calorie-dense and meal-dense diet?

you dont need em. i don't use any of that. still get big and lean without em.
