Quad sweep finally, sorta

Well I could never get a quad sweep to save my life no matter how much i tried....

I abdoned BB squats and hit up the Hammer Strength Leg Press and Hack Squat machines pretty tough this last year and i think i can see a quad sweep FINALLY

since this is kinda working for me right now i'm not gonna change it, but what do you guys do if you're specifically going for sweep?

my quads are thick front to back they have no width.. kinda pisses me off

from Sept through Dec i was doing something like this:

Hammer Strength Leg Press (feet high and wide)
warm up thoroughly
1 set x 10-15 reps as heavy as possible without banging the weights off the pads, only doing one heavy set so i was up around 400 lbs

Hack Squat (feet high and wide again)
same as HSLP, maybe an extra set if i felt good

Leg Extensions
2 sets around 10-15 reps again

Stiff Leg DLs
1 set around 12 reps just for a stretch, i dont get too sore in hamstrings unless i do these

Lying Leg Curls
2 sets 8-12 maybe one if i was tired



Since Dec, I've been doing doggcrapp's training and i've been gettting a shitload stronger... i am dieting so i dont know about bigger but i'm not losing any size that's for sure, and def. getting stronger :)

nah, i ditched them

i was doing 425 for 4 below parallel with perfect form then i'd get two more but i'd start to lean forward so i would end the set... then i would lighten up and do some reps....

i used to go squat crazy for years... its my fav. exercise and it made me strong as hell, got my legs thick front to back but did nothing for my sweep regardless of foot position

i didnt start getting a sweep until i did lots of hacks and HSLP

I have never liked that Hammer Strength leg press, just something about all hammer leg machines I don't like, just my opinion. I would try putting your feet a little lower. When you put your feet too high you take some of the stress off your quads and put it on your glutes. It defintely looks like you have some muscle there, but putting your feet lower should help with that tear drop too. I'm with Vander on the squats, I switched to smith machine squats and love them. Also try front squats, those will help with your tear drops and sweep, just keep your feet close together like you have. Good start.

I think the most important thing is that your improving. and if you stll are don't change anything.

I like the lower volume approach too.

I don't know if you do this on leg extensions but it will give them a good shock. once you fail do 2 or 3 forced and then do a static hold....when you strenght gives keep resisting and do a slow negative. (prolly will only need one set instead of 2)

i tried those reclined leg extentions that charles glass had gunter doing for his upper thigh, they work pretty well.

also, when u do your leg exten, dont let ur knee/foot rotate out. force ur knee to stay in a fixed postion somewhat rotated inward. this will put all the focus on the sweep.

i have also had to get away from squats to make my legs grow. being a powerlifter, i let my ego get in the way of my growth. i just couldnt NOT go heavy. i have squated 675 for 5 to parallel, no wraps no belt consistantly, but legs did not start responding untill i stopped training the lift and started training my legs.

Don't let Phil see you talking about extensions.:rolleyes: You're just asking for trouble (or an education depending on how you look at it).
 
Hates leg extensions. Big advocate of them being unnecessary and bad for you. There is a post on it somewhere on the board. Ask him, he'll tell you.

I agree. The higher your feet, the more ham & glutes your working. What worked for me was front squats and all pressing and squating with a narrow foot position. This puts more stress on the quads and less on glutes.
