Question about Receptors

Is giving your receptors time off more about switching compounds every cycle, or is it more about being off long enough for you body to recover and return to normal?

You need a break to clean out your receptors or else your gains will just stop IMO. Swiching compounds will not give your receptors a break. You can come of with PCT or cruise bewteen cycles with a low dose of AS to give your recptors a break.

the more muscle you add the more receptors you develop so the receptor burnout theory can be debated. wouldnt guys like cutler have receptor burnout by now. i also do not believe its necessary to change test esters, to your body its still testorone the only thing your changing say from sust to cyp is the timing factor, test is test. that being said i believe people stop gaining from a cycle simply because its time to let the body catch up; meaning your body has to develop the support systems necessary to support the newly developed tissue. so in order for the body to catch up the muscle gains must slow, possibly by more cortisol output could be one factor. jmo

^^^i agree. if you need to come off to keep growing then the guys at the top level wouldn't be getting bigger every year.

if anything you should come off just to give your body a break and allow HPTA to return to normal.

this all being said i think guys that seem to have pushed the envelope on the pharmacuetical side seem to be going the other way physique-wise. look at kovacs and palumbo, they both seemed to go thru the same overall effect; they got absolutely freaky in terms of size then started regressing particularly in terms of arm and leg size. dont know if it has anything to do with receptors but something odd definetly going on there. where's magnum? possibly gh/insulin related who knows

Well said.

i don't cycle.

i use low dose test year round, until such a time comes when i need to add more test to further gains.

i use this protocol as i dont like the yo-yo of cycling. low dose test year round makes me progress at a slower pace, giving me what i find to be more quality muscle gains over a longer period of time.

cycling, i dont believe, will give you the same gains over time as staying on low dose therapy.

i switch my esters every 12 weeks. there is no proof that not switching them is beneficial, just like there is no evidence to that it is benefical to switch, just whatever works best for the end user.

and thru trial and error, continual low dose test protocols, cycling esters produces for me the best gains i have ever made.

just my 0.02

I just think the body gets tired after a while. I think its important to let your body rest just for the simple fact it can repair everything and be at 100%. I also think there is a correlation between increasing body mass and longevity within bodybuilding...but I'm pretty sure I'm not pointing out anything that anyone else has not noticed. The smaller guys seem to maintain a healthier more vivrant look and over a longer period of time. Is it from a lower amount of drug use? Maybe it is....but I think the total amount of stress on the body is much lower too from having to carry less mass ect.

Great responses so far guys. Do any of your responses train if the person in question is training more for strength than mass? And do the responses change between novice users and seasoned users?

The phenomenon of “clearing out receptors” carries no weight in a biochemical context. Several of the above responses were right on the money though. There are several factors at work which cause gains to stop during long cycles:
-cortisol and sex hormone binding globulin become elevated as the body tries to maintain homeostasis
-the androgen receptor becomes down-regulated. The receptors response to the binding of a steroid hormone, and the response of the body to receptor+bound steroid decrease. The actual number of receptors increases at the beginning of the cycle and returns to the baseline level after some time on cycle has passed
-The body has a finite amount of what is termed “adaptation energy.” Just as stress at work or at home can interfere with progress in the gym, the body perceives rapid gain of weight and the energy cost associated with maintaining muscle mass as a stress. There must be a period of rest to allow the body to recalibrate (this is the “set point theory”).

Of course, the above points and “clearing out receptors” both lead to the same conclusion: we’ve got to take time OFF!

Good post Heavy Lifter. Thanks.
