Just got back from BestBuy. The sales person wanted to charge me $100 to make a "recovery disc". Or I could do it myself. He said no PC's or Laptops have discs in them any more. Meaning, there are no back up driver discs or anything in the package anymore. When did companies stop putting the recovery discs in the boxes with the equipment? And how can I make my own recovery (backup) disc?

That is just one reason why I'd never by a computer from a consumer store. Order online, get business class and you will get everything you need along with parts that are far superior class A instead of B & C class parts. This especially pays off with a laptop.

A word of mention, I never use driver disca and find them useless to me. To do a good job reloading a computer, start off with freshly downloaded drivers from the vender's website, along with a BIOS update if a new version is available.

Thanks again Kaiser.

p.s. when I called bestbuys 1-800 number they told me the exact same thing. They are shipped out with no discs. that's BS! if you ask me.

thats part of their money racket, they want you to pay extra or do a backup yourself.

Burn one

On my new computer it's saved on the actual harddrive and it gives you the option to burn one to DVD, hope this helps.

I've been trolling thru the internet and I have found several folks that say Windows 7 does come with a feature that lets you make your own back up disc. So within the next few days I'll buy that loptop and see if I can find it in there. Thanks.

LOL I just did the same thing but they never told me they didnt come with a recovery disk i went back to the store and they looked at me like i had 2 heads but yeah u can make your own my buddy just did it for me on a dvd

The recovery discs are now stored on the harddrive in most cases, as a different partition (partitioning basicly splits the drive into multiple drives) if you go to My Computer you may see a drive called 'Recovery' or something like that

The best way to do a new install is to download a CD of whatever OS you use (ie, Windows 7 32 bit) and when you need to do a new install, use that disc and download the newest drives from the manufactures website, that way you dont get all their 'crap-ware' installed with your computer

The serial number for Windows is located on the bottom of your laptop, or on the back/side of your desktop.
