rough weekend

i was out saturday night with some friends, we had left dinner and were headed out to a bar... i was fiddling around with my stereo and looked up and noticed the guy in the right lane next to me was swerving into my lane.. so i cut the wheel left to try and avoid a wreck, ended up losing control and hitting a parked car on the other side of the 4 lane road. we were only going about 45 but that can do some damage i am aware of now.

at first, i looked over and noticed my buddy was unconcious and had blood coming from the right side of his head. (we were both wearing seat belts). I freaked out and tried to open my door, but it was jammed shut, so I rolled odwn my window and jumped out, then i realized his door was also jammed shut. there was a wooden sign we had slid up against that was, so i started pulling on the sign and with the help of a few others finally got the sign out, and got my friend out. he ended up needing about 7 staples on the right side of his head and was ok for the most part. i was in extreme neck pain, but didnt think much of it.. my mom stopped by the next day to see me and pretty much made me go to the ER (thanks MOM!) got xrays and a CT and found out i had broke my neck i have never broke a bone in my life, the neck isnt a good one to start with.. im currently in a soft cast and just laying around the house trying to heal up. i still have numbness in my right arm, which iwll hopefully go away soon.. i have a follow up appointment in two weeks with my neurosurgeson to see how everything is healing up.

my car is totaled, no gap insurance, the guy who swerved into my lane kept going. i probabbly wont be able to workout for 6 months plus.. all that said, im fortunate im not paralyzed and no one was killed.

its crazy how things can happen so quickly! if this doesnt make a whole lot of snese im on some pain killers right now so please bear iwth me.

dude you are very lucky - you do realize that after the accident if you had perhaps jerked your head to the side or turned your head suddenly you you could have killed yourself.

Lucky is an understatement!! Dude I am glad you alright, as hard as it may be, do not worry about getting back in the gym! Do everything necessary to heal up. Thank god your alright.

i kinda had a scare like that about a year ago.

i was going about 70mph on the interstate at night and a big plastic trash can flew out the back of a pickup truck right towards me. at the time i had no idea what it was so i swerved. went into the median, tried to correct it and ended up spinning down the interstate and hitting the guard-rail facing on-coming traffic.

luckily no other cars were envolved and i wasnt hurt. definitely a scary experience.

i hope u have a good recovery and glad ur not too severly injured

You are exactly right BN another .5 inch and I would probably be in a wheel chair for the rest of my life, I couldn't imagine my life like that. Hopefully chicks dig me as a skinny guy for a while

Dude...I would look at this as another chance man. As many people have said you very easily could've been paralyzed permanently or even killed in that wreck. Your neck was broken and if it is some of the vertebrae that are broken all it takes is for one of them to move the wrong way and severe the arteries that run through them up into your brain and you are a gone'r.

Very glad that you made it through this and don't worry about the healing time. The numbness in your arm is definitely due to a nerve at a certain spinal level, probably in your cervical spine. However, our nerves have the ability to repair themselves and regrow to a degree if they are not completely severed. So don't worry about everything right now, just get better.

Spend this time to do a lot of research about different things you want to do in your life, that way when you are able to do them you will be ready.

Thanks man, and yes I definitely am considering this as a second chance. I have some things in my life that needed change and I will use this as an opportunity to make them. For now, I'm enjoying my paid time off relaxing on the couch doing nothing.
