Shin splints!!!!!!

What to do or not to do? I have a fight in 5 weeks and need to run some sprints etc.
 
i used to get shin splints pretty bad......picked up some new running shoes....seems to be better now.
 
new shoes, shoe inserts, ice ice ice after workout, When i played college basketball while i was icing, the trainer had me spell out the ABC's with my feet in the air, said it helps some how, come game day, my shin splints never bothered me, they also have splint sleeves at sports stores that always helped while training for me
 
Got them real bad a few years ago during football season.Went to out Trainer/massage person.In 2 seasons they were gone and never got them again.It was the worst pain i ever felt for 15 min,had my big ass in tears but it was worth it.They have to break the scare tissue up from the shin bone.
 
weighted stretches of the shins with a Dynamic Axial Rotation Device (DARD) are extremely helpful.

I also take a broomstick and roll my shins with broomstick - like a foam roller - it's painful but gives me great relief from shin splints
 
All good advice.

How old are your kicks? Are they real running shoes or cross trainers? You should start thinking about replacing real running shoes after about 300 miles...and make sure they are a decent make and at least a mid priced shoe. Run only in them, weight training will compress the absorption materiel more quickly.

Stretch before and ice after if you MUST run, NSAID's don't hurt either.

i only got shin splits when i did uphill runs a lot. I never stretched that much either, when I started stretching, that's when they went away. put compression wraps on and ice, NSAIDS will also help to a degree.
