ok guys wel ive had a problem in my chest for like 2 years on and off. wasnt sure what it was, thought that when i hurt it i just tiny strained the muscle because the next day i would usually be fine. and i have benched my heaviest with the injury. 455 on flat 425 incline and 150lb dumbells for sets of 10. so didn thing it as a tear ell finally went to the doc because i hury it again on a set of 365 bench. got the MRI with the die and it shows i have a slap labrum tear. i dont have any pain doing regular stuff, a small discomfort on military press, and i still can do chest using hammer strength and cable and dumbbells just not super heavy. have any of you had this and it heal on your own, or did you go through the surgery thanks for any input

I had a Stage 4 Labral tear. SLAP tear. ask your Doc at what stage your tear is. 1 being the lowest 4 being ...well....Surgery time.
Rehab wont fix a Slap Tear..... once that "gasket" goes it only gets worse.
16 week Recovery time post-op.....And while the Doc was in there he found some tendons were detatched , fixed those and he "Debread" =(Cleaned) my shoulder socket.

well mine must be close to a one with no pain and he said that if i had surgery i woulod be out of the gym for 6 weeks not 16.

I was having lots of shoulder pain had my MRI done about 3 months ago found out i have a slap tear in the lambrum as well... the surgeon said that the torn labrum wasnt what was causing my pain tho it was a muscle imbalance in the rotator cuff so sent me to physical therapy for it and no surgery... 3 months of rehab later my shoulder is still killing me, and now my health insurance runs out in about a month :(

Yeah, yours must be minor......rest it!!! When they shot the GAD into the shoulder socket, and by the time I had the MRI, it had all leaked out through the tear. The Doc basically said "So I'll have the nurse set up a time for the surgery." I did not have an option. REST IT!!!!!!! Please.

I recently had the labral tear surgery, didn't help at all. The only 6 weeks out of the gym sounds unrealistic though, perhaps the guy is misjudging by what you understand under 'being in the gym'. I'm sure you won't be doing anything intense that involves your upper body or arms for 3-4 months.

I had mine scoped & reattached yrs back

Labrum tears are a tough thing to deal with. I personally have had mine operated on once already need it on my other shoulder as well. (I overcompensated far to long with the opposite shoulder.) Anyway I think you should really sit down and think if you want to do this. Especially if you dont have any pain.

I was a baseball player in highschool and also in college as well. I ended up feeling really sore when I pitched on game in college. I ended up resting it for about 2 weeks then it got better then it started hurting again. Did this on and off for a long time. I eventually decided to get it cut on and found that I had much more than just the labrum. ( that is another thing to keep in mind as well.) I also had the MRIs but once they got in there, they found more damage. Anyway it took me almost a year and a half before I felt better. I always felt weird after the surgery.

I would really try to think about how much bigger do you really want to get. If you want to get much bigger to the point that you are almost competing then you might think about getting it cut on but keep in mind the recovery can be longer than stated. Your movement takes a while to come back.

If you are not going to compete then I would think about just trying to strengthen your back and rotator cuff muscles more. This is usually what causes the tears. stronger chest than back.

If I had my chance to do mine all over again I would decide to quit my competing and not have the surgery since mine was not painfull day to day or it wasnt at that time. Dont get cut on until it is totally needed.

Just my .02

good luck! you will need it I think

ok well in your opnioin what would you do to stregthen back muscles and rotator cuff more?? like witch back muscles and what exercises woulod you recomend. thanks im not new to weight training but since you went through it what would you sugest thanks a lot

there is no way that you will be working out 6 weeks after surgery...a friend of mine just had his repaired and he was in a sling for close to a month. you may be able to do shoulder exercises with 2 pound weights after 6 weeks in physical therapy but it will be more like 4-6 months before you can work out the way you would like to

I am almost 5 months post surgery and just starting to feel better. I had my shoulder reconstucted due to several tears in October 2009. The labrum was in terrible shape which consisted of a severe slap tear so the doctors removed the biceps tendon and reattached it to bone. The rehab is a very slow process. I am just getting back into the gym where I can really start to strengthen it now. This is my 3rd surgery on the same shoulder, now my issue is severe athritus. I hope your injury is not as severe and you take the time to rest it and let it heal. Good luck!

mine is not severe at all ie almost no pain at all. i mean i only had it checked out becuse from time to time i feel it pull when heavy benching. so if i take it easy do you think it will heal on its own over time?? also im taking 10 iu a day of gh, and i cycle igf l3. im sure those will help with healing but not sure.

I believe this has happened several times with me. There is a big knot in my left peck. I can still press with it, but was curious if surgery could unbundle the knotted muscle fibers, or what.. When I flex you can see the striations where it has occurred on both sides of chest.

Any advice?

Had the same surgery in august,it got so bad i couldnt list for more than 5 min till the pain got to bad.It has been 7 months and still not completly healed.Ivwe had 6 surgery from shoulders to knees and it was the worst of them all.

Had mine done and had bone spurs shaved off. The following week I was in physical therapy. I was lifting with light weights about 1 month after that. 3 months after that I was back to normal and no pain at all.How well you recover will depend on how good your surgeon is and how well your nutrition/physical therapist is.

Can't speak for myself, but I feel like I can, my wife
having had a slap tear. She did the dye job, x-rays,
MRI, etc. The doc said she was not best candidate
for surgery (imagine a surgeon saying no to the knife)
as she was in such good shape and he suspected
she could rehab it, which she did. Physical therapy
with a pro, 2X per week for 12(?) weeks got her to
90%, I got her to 99%. She's right as rain now.

Hey sorry I didnt get back to you. I got really busy then just got back from vacation.

Anyway the thing that helped me most was working all of my back. I had to concentrate on trying to get my back much stronger than my chest. This probably won't happen but that was the method that I had to use. Never had problems since.

I also have read in numerous places that the #1 reason for any kind of shoulder instability originates from a stronger chest into relation to your back. Actually pulling your shoulder forward. ( Cant quite tell you where I have seen and read this but Im sure you could look up things like shoulder instability on the net and find some reading about it. ) I had to lighten up on my chest workout a little and work more on my back for about 6 months. that seemed to be the trick for me. Now I am back to normal

Hope that helps a little. Good luck!

tore my labrum a couple years back on a pos smith machine that got stuck coming half way up on just one side. had an MRI done and instead of surgery i elected to get cortizone shots every 6 months. i know thats not good to do but it was closer to level 2 and its gotten better. i dont do upright rows and incline barbell hurts a little so i stick to dumbells when doing incline. i know i need to get it fixed but just cant think of not being able to tran for 12 weeks so im just nursing it along. probably no the smartest but thats just me.
