could someone please post a list of required(and recommended) steps when setting up an LLC? I attempted a google search but all i was getting were companies wanting to set up the paperwork for a fee.
You can do it online here. There are many types however so I would say with an attourney to see which will be best for you not only now but in the future.
i work at a law firm & create LLC's regularly. here's the advice i give my friends who i'm trying to save attorneys fee:
if you're sure that an LLC is what will best suit your needs, go to the secretary of state's website for your state (or the state where you will be doing business) and search for forms. there should be a form for LLC's. on the site there will also be a database of LLC's already in existence so you must check to make sure the name you want to use is not already in use. fill in form, mail it with check for recording costs to sec. of state.
as dogma suggested, you may want to see an attorney to make sure that you are organizing your business in a manner that will offer you the proper structure/protection for your needs.
Can I ask what type of endeavor are you about to embark on ? Will you be partnering with anyone ? Have you or will you be establishing business credit thru Dun and Bradstreet ? Which state are you looking to establish the LLC in ? Have you discussed any of this with an Accountant/CPA ?
