Strange shoulder/neck/trap/back problem

Hopefully some of you guys can tell me WTH is going on with me.

I woke up Monday morning and could barely turn my head to the LEFT or pull my head back. Each time I would turn my head I felt a pulling and aching sensation in my right upper lat, right trap, around my right rear delt. If I tried to geta good stretch and go more to the LEFT and hold it I would feel a small ache in my right medial delt. So my girl came home, found the spot in my lat, and just went deep with an elbow on it. After this the range of motion in my neck was 100% better but still achy.

I woke up Tuesday morning and the same things but muuuuch better. I decided to take another day off because I don't have insurance and can't afford to throw caution to the wind. My girl comes home again and this time she loosens a knot in my right trap. After this I could move my neck no issues and no pain.

I woke up today and felt just a little pain and decided to hit the gym for a shoulder workout. Here's where I am completely stumped. I can neutral overhead press, shrug, flye (medial and posterior), and behind the neck pulldown. I have a full range of motion and lost no strength on these exercises. But I cannot do a standard overheard press. Any ideas why I can do everything but overhead press? My old chiropractor told me there's a million nerves in your upper back and a lot of times one can get tweaked and throw everything off.
 
See a doctor for some muscle relaxors.

I am going on week 7 of a similar issue. Tried massage, heat, ice...nothing.

The lower back of skull hurts when I tilt/turn my head right or left. Succumbed to the idea of muscle relaxers. At my GP's request - started a course of muscle relaxers (Skelaxin) Friday and Naproxen.

Out of the gym 7 weeks now.... :banghead:
 
I wish I could go to the doctor brother. No insurance. Did he tell you no gym for the foreseeable future??

See a doctor for some muscle relaxors.

I tweak a nerve once in awhile that pretty much sounds identical to what you're explaining...it hurts to turn to whichever side it's on, but you can tell it's based behind the trap.

Honestly I never have gone to a doctor for it because it happens every once in awhile and goes away completely after 4-5 days. That might be reckless advice for you, if you're issue is different. But that is my experience.

My GP said when I feel better. I have been out of the gym 7 wks now - because I am stubborn and did not want the muscle relaxers. Now I am just hoping to wake up and feel better. The drugs help a lot, however the issue still exists. I only started last Friday, therefore I am giving it until Monday before seeing a specialist for a 2nd time which would mean an MRI.

I am 99.9% positive mine is purely muscle related. What is freaky is that I heard a pop before the first symptoms of pain.

It sucks...I wish you the best bro. Let me know if I can be of help.
 
None of that. Is that something I should look out for?
Of course. If you do develop or already have these issues it would be more nerve/disk related. If not ice, rest and heat for a week and see what happens.
 
That's weird, I have the EXACT same issue right now, only on my left side. It's been getting progressively better each day, but is still annoying. It flared up Sunday night for me.

That said, I've been self rehabbing it. At the gym, I've been going wide grip on a lat pull down machine with weight on the stack and have just been letting it stretch me out. At home, I lay on my back on the ground, lay my arms out to fashion a "cross," and keep my left arm straight but roll my body over on it to essentially pull my shoulder blade out of the capsule. I've also tried having someone put pressure on it as you did.

When I wake up for the day I'm fairly stiff, but as I do the things described above I loosen up throughout the day and feel better. A few more days and I think I'll be good.
