so was about to get back into things, deadlifting the other day and i managed to tear my teres major and quadricep, both right side when i went to pull the bar off the ground

i have a tear about 24mm X15mm in diamater in both muscles

been docs, got ultra sounds, etc and confirmed

only issue is, my doc tells me he doesnt know how to treat it and becoz im a bodybuilder he thinks i should see a specialist

ive been refered back and fourth to now 4 specialists, all of which say they dont deal with these issues, and after getting thrown around between docs/specialists ive been given a referral to see a orthopedic surgeon on the 20th of July which kinda stupid considering i gotta wait a month just for a consultation and who know wtf my problem will look like by then

so thought id come here to the board and ask, people who are bodybuilders and have torn muscles what there recovery process was? and what was required? is my doc jus and idiot and paranoid? or is my small tear actualy serious?

Hey there, I'm sorry I can't give the best input, but I can share some experience...

I tore my distal Bicep tendon doing dips, orthopedic surgeon saw me and said it could be fixed with surgery, but probably not necessary because it would get better, though never fully back to normal on its own...

A month later, I started doing pressing again and it was a dull icy cold pain, but I could do it if I was careful. To this day, I can't do dips or decline Bench (Idk why, decline aggravates), or Incline Bench with a barbell without feeling some pain...

Anyways it did recover on its own, I can flat Bench 315+ for reps and Dumbbell Incline, Dumbbell shoulder Press, pretty much everything except 3-4 movements.

It definitely never fully recovered..

Yours is a muscle tear, its a bit different obviously... No idea, but just find another orthopedic surgeon to see you quicker?

Sorry if this whole post was meaningless... Just want to give you some hope

sorry to hear that mate. did you go real heavy?
waiting for specialist sucks. did you try to explain you are an athlete? I told them I represent Australia internationally, and got lots of help from the Alfreds.

when i tore my quadriceps (all four of them) i did my own pt. the muscles didnt fully sever so surgery was not an option. the surgeon also would not sew the tear back together saying it would not work. sewing muscle to muscle is much like trying to sew two wet kitchen sponges together. the stitches will not hold them together.

as mentioned i did my own pt. i bought a spinnng bike which i rode every morning followed by water squats in my pool. doing the squats in my pool allowed my to keep full range while not putting weight on the muscle.

see my log here...
http://www.professionalmuscle.com/f...93-recovery-log-severely-torn-quadriceps.html

i tore going for a 1rm at a meet. a little over 1 year later i beat that 1rm by 20lbs.

that's terrible brotha...I don't have any advice with that injury, just wanted to wish you the best bloke at a good recovery...

I myself have not had any issues like that; however, I do work at a medical practice and I treat these issues all the time. From my experience I can reinforce what you have already figured out, that most M.D.'s do not deal with these types of issues. Obviously surgeons do surgery, and if you do not need surgery there are really no services they will offer you as that is their specialty.

I am a neuromuscular therapist and active release technique provider who works for a M.D. When a patient comes in with an issue much like yours, I will asses the issue with the M.D. and from there we will formulate a plan of care. Generally the plan of care will include two weeks of aggressive soft tissue treatment. Within the fist week, even with an acute injury like you have, there should be very good profession. However, if there is not and the issue does not improve, we schedule imaging and generally will refer out to a specialist.

My advice to you would be to seek out an ART provider and get their opinion on your personal situation as they are the ones in the medical field who actually treat soft tissue and it sounds like that is exactly what you need.

Also, there are three different types of muscle strains. They are listed as a grade I,II and III. Grade III generally requires surgery, however, they other two can generally be resolved with good soft tissue treatment like ART.

But to answer the question on whether or not your issues is serious, in my opinion it is but nothing to freak out about. It is very resolvable with correct intervention and if you receive the right type of treatment, it should resolve and be back to full functionality in 4-8 weeks.

I hope this helps and best of luck.

See if you can get a hold of a doctor who works with sports injury on a regular basis, like a doc from a local football team, or whatever you can find. They'll tell you where to go.

if its not completely severed they cant fix torn muscle.
there is no other doctor to talk to. physical therapy and time.
you will be back to 100% strength in a year. you will likely have disfigured muscle. i have a hole in my quad where my severe tear was. my orthopedic surgeon treats athletes from the professional football and baseball teams in my area. your not going to get much more of a "sports doc" than that.

it was heavy, but nothing i havent done before comfortably, LOL i might just try that

awesome i was given a referral by a mate whos an athlete who recommended something myotherapist who does soft tissue treatment

but thankyou, youve basically confirmed what i was thinking and surgery isnt going to be required, jus felt that way wen ive been given 4 referrals becoz no one can deal with the issue

Thankyou for the help, much appreciated

Glad the information was useful. You can look up and see if you have an active release technique provider in your area on their website. Give it a try, you should notice results after the first treatment since you have a soft tissue injury.

Mate
Sorry to hear about your injury, if its muscular tears not tendon damage it will heal relatively quickly.
I have an extensive list of prior injuries, contrary to what is stated above, a really good orthopaedic surgeon can sew muscle to muscle to repair a tear, I know because I have had it done (L pec torn right thought the belly and curled up in a ball and my surgeon repaired it to 95%). Sounds like you may not need it though.
I have also had other surgeries and posted blogs of my rehab on other boards which I can dig up if you are interested.
I am in AU too, send me a PM if you want.
Cheers
