Finasteride, any long time users?

I feel like I've been living under a rock just stumbling upon finasteride and I took my great hairline for granted for years but now it's starting to suffer. My wife finally told me my hair loss is noticeable. It's receding and thinning in the top, you can see my scalp when my hair is wet. For me it's definitely took a hit from years of blasting but a few traumatic life events the last year probably didn't help.

Goals these days are just to look good for a 40yr old guy and to be a decent husband and dad so just TRT with the occasional add-in anabolic for a few weeks.

Any long time finasteride users? What has been your dose? Were you able to taper down after getting it under control? How were your side effects if any? Gonna start with .5mg and some topical minoxidil. Really just want to keep what I have and maybe thicken it up a little bit.

Been on it now since ~2018-2019 roughly. Started with 1mg daily prescribed via Hims website. That halted my hair loss and haven’t had any libido or erection issues from it. I’m using black market finastiride .25mg EOD now since I’ve been educated on it more by @Black Beard.

Good stuff thank you. I think I'll likely start on the 0.5mg EOD to get it under control and then try to taper down to 0.25mg if needed. 1mg a day is the conventional wisdom and what I saw most often when reading about finasteride and this seems to be where most of the side effects come from. This is one of the cases where I'd rather block 70% of the DHT as opposed to battle the dramatic side effects that cause most guys to shun it all together and make youtube videos about their experience.
I'm also going to try to keep my TRT shots to ED or EOD to reduce any hormonal peaks and troughs.

Been using it since 2013-14. Too much finasteride has caused relationship friction .

Must use Cialis or Viagra with this as insurance. Without finasteride sex drive is good. Erection quality is fine , raging. Even with Cialis it seems to not rage so androgens do cause not only erection quality , erection aggressiveness per say. Without dht in system, or lower dht, that spark isn't there. One can have decent and good erection quality though , with cialis. That's my experience anyways

Cialis seems to cause longer lasting sex, then even when dht is mid, or lower ,starting and stopping, if you wish to do that. In fact higher dht may cause one to not last as long bc one tends enjoy the aggression sex more.

The way I look at this is, a full functioning penis versus thick hair and you can only pick one. I am bald and could care less. It never bothered me. If my unit would start to malfunction I would be wrecked. So it was an easy choice for me.

Hey, you don't necessarily have to make any sacrifice. You can have both.

The sooner you start, the better your results will be.

I found my sweet spot is .5mg 6 days a week and .5mg dutasteride once a week.

I was able to take my fin doseage down from 1mg daily, too .5 6 days a week with no hair loss with the adjustment.

Reduce mgs and or times per week taken. 0.2 mgs works about as good as 0.5 or 1 mgs.

Risk of "permanent" sides is virtually none.

Risk of sides is real as with any potent medication. You take ralox/nolva/adex for gyno reversal/prevention etc you may have sides.


However, using the correct dosage will significantly reduce the risk of sides. 0.25 mg daily does the job as does 0.5 mg MWF.


1 mg daily is too much for many guys with barely any increase in efficacy but much much higher risk of side effects.


Sometimes, oddly enough, some guys also get less side effects from dutasteride. (Duta will work at 0.5 mg two-three times per week)

Been on it for about 3 months, no sides. Prescribed 1mg ED but I only take 0.5mg ED. Its brought my DHT from 69(high) to 36(normal). I also use Ketoconazole shampoo 3x/week but I don't think that influences blood markers as it doesn't go systemic.
