how do you know if you tore it? it hurts near my elbo on the medial side. it almost hurts down past my elbo, about an inch past my elbo. how long should i wait for pain to stop before i can assume its torn or would i know already if it was torn b/c i would be hurting like a mofo? is there any tendons there i could have torn? i think it feels like its probably in the brachialis area where its is most tender. can you tear that?

I used to play pro ball, and I freyed my bicept tendon. Its not a tare but it hurts like hell!! The pain will go away after the swelling is gone. Depending on how many layers of the tendon are freyed, you may or may not need sergery. I'm not sure if this is what you have, but you definitly don't have a tear if the pain is bearable. A tear would put you into some serious pain with every movement. Just rest it up and maybe get some anti inflamitories from your Doc.

It will swell like a mofo and probably get very bruised in the area. I tore one in my ankle (not completely off the bone) and it swelled twice the size in about 5 minutes. 2 days later my whole foot was black from the blood settling. Went away in a few weeks, but it took about a month before i could train legs again and that was with the ankle wrapped very tightly.

Baseball!! I was a pitcher in my younger (lighter) days. Then I fucked up my bi tendon and needed sergery. Never recovered after that. Then I got into BBing. I had no problems with heavy weights, just throwing. I guess its the arm motion that stretches and freys the tendon. Even to this day if I throw a ball to hard, I can feel the fibers freying. : (

Wait 24hrs and your whole arm will be black and blue.
Also check to see if the muscle still has a normal shape, when I tore mine it rolled up into a ball and disappeared under my deltoid.

If you have any question at all get to a sports med doc or a orthapedic surgeon ASAP, don't get left with 1.5 biceps cos it looks really wierd.

Trsut me I know I have 1.5 biceps

I ruptured my biceps tendon and it did like boing said. it rolled up to my deltoids. If you don't get much bruising you probably partially tore a tendon. If you have a lot of bruising you have torn some muscle fibers. Muscle tears will bruise a lot more than tendons.

ok well its been two days and the pain has almost stopped. it only hurts when touched near the bend in my arm. i have noticed that it is more painful when fully extended than when its bent. i tried to lift on friday and couldnt do shit b/c it felt like whatever was damaged was about to give out. another thing, i only noticed the pain the day after i would have damaged it. the day of the injury it only felt tight after the set i worked the muscle. it was not painful after my first set of bi work and i continued to work them later in the session. if there is very little pain to the touch sunday and little or no pain on monday is it safe to work the muscle? or should i leave it alone for longer. if i should work it should i take it easy or should i continue with regular routine? i know its probably something i should decide on my own b/c none of you are able to feel or see the injury but im asking what have you done when things like this have happend to you? is it possible that i just got one hell of a pump from the workout on thurs. and i was abnormaly sore around the brachiallis (sp) muscle? i did curl extraheavy that day.

Didnt think it was a tear. Youd know if it was.
Its already been mentioned it pulls the muscle away
from the joint very noticably (damn, hid up under the delt-thats BAD!). And you will have a large purple/blue where the injury is,
covering at least 1/2 your arm.
You just have a strain. I pRtially tore my tricep-it didnt come all the way off. Its still not the same, smaller and a little funny looking. It was very purple-blue when it happened for 5-7 days.

IMO you have a strain, if you went extra heavy it probably just overloaded the tendon/muscle a little and it is showing it's displeasure.

When you go back is up to you but I would caution that a little time off (2-3 more days) now is probably worthwile in the long run.
