I don’t know much about Mike Israetel. I have never watched any of his videos, I have only seen a couple of snippets of a video where he was training with two other Youtubers and to be honest, he seemed kind of weird. Lol ( Believe me, I have no room to talk here, it was just an observation)

This still turned out to be an entertaining listen. Mike has a good head on his shoulders, he is extremely articulate, he has a sense of humor, he is very positive (nearly to a fault) and he seems to have a good grasp on where we are headed in terms of pharmaceuticals, Ai and gene therapy, albeit he seems overtly optimistic on how soon we will have major breakthroughs available to the public.

Only a small part of the interview centers on steroids, this is the same interview where he said he felt like a psychotic lunatic when prepping for a show, it was good for headlines but they quickly move on to other subjects.

Mike makes a strong case for pharmaceutical drugs including the day exercise in a pill becomes a thing cause lets face it, if everyone had the self discipline to go to the gym and eat right, ozempic would not exist. Even if you enjoy going to the gym for hours a day, you will have the option of skipping that altogether and fill that time with other pursuits, other things that are just as important, like spending time with your family or the pursuit of knowledge.

While i can find him entertaining, i watch him very little. I can't say i am over impressed with his knowledge. Being well spoken doesn't mean a prson actullyy knows what they are talking about or are right.

Not a fan of his content either. He just says a lot of really weird, unhinged shit. Makes it hard to find the content enjoyable when all I want is the knowledge without the bullshit

Not a fan. He relies on excessively filthy anecdotes and and disgusting humor to make up for lackluster content, not knowing how to get in contest shape, and a poor training system. A lot of whining and complaining about the effects of his own choices to pursue bodybuilding and not being very good at it. He's certainly a smart guy but he would be better off if he stopped complaining and making excuses and learned how to really eat and train.

When the day comes that a pill can replace exercise

I shall continue to exercise

Not everything in life is weighed by a marginal utility standpoint. There's also enjoyment in doing things

Thats the beauty of it. You have the option of working out anyway or taking 2 weeks off and not losing progress.

For whatever reason, don't care to analyze it, I always have a negative feeling seeing his face and there's something about his demeanor that doesn't sit right with me. I have seen others mention similar feelings towards him too. Oh yeah, he said Ronnie Coleman would have had bigger thighs if he squatted like him lol.

I personally don't see any pill replicating the complete hormetic response of exercise

It's effects on brain (BDNF, Dop, Ser, NorE) is still not understood fully, hell we don't even have an assay to measure neurotransmitters lol

Not to mention the effects on bone, tendon, muscle tissue obviously, vasculature of the body

In my opinion, the people who think a pill can replace exercise completely are the same folks who think human beings can live to 150+ years...if your kidneys and heart can make it that long, good luck not being a vegetable cognitively. But I'm a skeptic for most things so...🤷‍♂️

I feel pretty confident that these are all mysteries that science will eventually unravel, although I do not think it will happen in our lifetime.

but to your point, if I could take a pill that would make me look like Dennis Wolf, I would definitely take the pill… And I would still go to the gym consistently! Because who, outside of meatheads in the gym, could appreciate me walking around, looking like Dennis Wolf?!?

I remember that podcast… I think they were debating the point of full range of motions being better for hypertrophy. Who knows? Maybe he could’ve been 1/100% better? Would it really matter? Probably not. I can’t imagine how he would squeeze any more muscle onto his frame than what he had an 03, 04, and 05…

As far as Mike goes… I like the guy. I think he says some goofy stuff, I also think he uses a lot of his self deprecating humor, and over the top commentary to be entertaining. And I really enjoy his programming app. It’s helped me get a better look at what I am doing as far as volume and effort and, although I may be past my prime muscle building years, I am making progress and am the healthiest and most injury free that I have been in quite some time.

With regard to training theory… The longer that time goes on and the more I learn, the less I know what to think! I mean, seriously… One study says this, another study says that. I think we can agree that mechanical tension is what drives hypertrophy, but who knows about lengthened response or intensifies or anything else? I doubt anything currently being pushed by the “science Bros” utilized experienced (10 to 15 years), intensely training, perfectly dietary adherent, steroid-using meatheads as their subjects… So how much of this can TRULY apply to our population?

Anyway, I digress… I’m going off on a completely separate tangent.

I guess my point is I like the guy, I also like a lot of folks that can’t stand him. I try to get as much information as I can from as many sources as possible, and then do the best that I can to glean the wheat from the chaff.

The guys little man syndrome is a bit to toxic for me and personally I think he's just another youtube douche bag.

For example: Seen him talking chit on Mike O'hearn videos (really don have a position on O'hearn and probably would share the same opinion on him as anyone), where O'hearn is training a guy with long hair and Israetel makes comments like "haha he's training this guy that's smoked some much pot he probably can't blah blah blah... continuing to bad mouth the two. To me that's a pretty low and cheap move to make lame content ripping on someone trying to learn. Yeah, go a head and rip on someone cus they have long thick hair and not a bald dome like his crusty midget ass lol

To me, he just comes off like the typical toxic short shit at the gym, that will voice any kind of toxic chit chat to make his short ass feel superior...

As cool as it would be, I also think it’s bad in that lazy undisciplined people (me) can simply take a pill and look great. There’s something about having a crazy jacked physique that speaks to a person’s character, the time and effort to get those results. Looking good should be reserved for those who put the time and effort into it.

As for Mike Isratael, that guy says some really out of pocket shit at times lol. I think he is trying to appeal to general younger audience but also just seems to have a massive chip on his shoulder.

I do have an opinion on that one… Mike O’Hearn is a duplicitous liar, a con man, a pretentious opportunist and an asshole that has fleeced people out of countless thousands of dollars. I think he’s a festering pile of rotten human excrement and if I stepped in him, I would burn my shoes rather than scrape him off of them.

I was not aware of Mike Israetel ripping on him, but that makes me like Bald Mike even more.

Yea Mike thinks we will have exercise in a pill and ai solving the worlds problems by 2035. I wish.

Honestly, all I reallly want is a gene therapy hair regrowth pill and a device to clone and grow an organ with zero chance of rejection within a few days for the inevitable heart and kidney failure of old age. Maybe have those installed preemptively by age 60 cause I dont think your body would take such a surgery in your 70s or 80s.

I would take a pill that would make me look like Dennis Wolf and change back to normal in a week lol

That way I satisfy knowing what it feels like to be a SHW bodybuilder, and not feel exhausted 24/7 going up a flight of stairs after a week :)

I can definitely agree with you on the Mike O'Hearn stuff, I just didn't want to be the one to say it. Israetel ripping on O'Hearn no problem with that and see his point/purpose if O'Hearn is misleading people that don't know better.

The short coming for me on Israetel is hearing him ripping on a dude with long hair and labeling him a pothead and so on. I can't help but point that out or if Israetel really gave a shit about helping people, he would have made a different/better statement or not commented anything at all. And I personally don't like the way he carries himself either with a chip on his shoulder, its cringe as fck.

Not to perpetrate further gossip in an already gossipy community of bodybuilding but why does Lyle have so much hate for Mike . The last few instagram posts I have seen of Lyle are basically non stop bashing of mike and other people. At some point you would think the knowledge would just speak for itself instead of constantly demeaning other parties.

It's because they're both zealots. Lyle for training to failure, Mike for volume. A few years ago Mike was posting videos of him and his guys training to "failure" and it was evident they were stopping short with what looked like a lot of reps in the tank. I myself can't understand the discrepancy. True failure reps are absolute grinders. Scott Stevenson is a perfect example of what taking a set all the way looks like.

Anyway, add the fact that Mike likes to talk and Lyle must be on the spectrum and you have an endless back and forth.
