This is probably the wrong place to bring this up but, I am using Vista and I hate it. Opinions?? I loved 98SE.

I cant stand Vista yet either. Maybe the first service pack will straighten out some issues, but I'm not a fan whatsoever. I still prefer XP Pro 64bit Edition, even for gaming. You would need an X64 bit capable processor to install it, and if not I would run the normal 32 bit version. 64 bit really shines on stability as it was not made from and previous version of XP or Win2000, it was actually built from Server 2003. Games have begun trickling in on the 64 bit platform and things like Half-Life 2-64 are SOOO much better in their 64 bit form. i also have not come across and application that does not run correectly on it in a while. In other words 32 bit software runs fine.

I'm moving on Mac, brothers

17 years of this MS shit long enough ....

I have only looked at it for a few seconds.
If I buy an oem, I'll get it without on OS and load hacked XPpro & Ubuntu.
I have a 64 bit cpu in my laptop but have never tried to install a 64 bit os on it.

64 Bit is so much better with XP. The core is actually Server 2003, not XP so even the shell is more stable. Drivers are out more and more now also. as far as games on it, there is nothing like 64 bit if the game is made to ustilize 64 bit. Half Life 2 is a world of difference in 64 bit. Smoothness and frame rate are like 40% better believe it or not. Well worth the money if you ask me.

I think Vista is ok, but with all the time invested into it MS could have done better. UAC is annoying, the performance is much worse then XP, and the first SP doesn't even address this. But if you have a powerful machine the performance difference is hardly noticeable. The only real benefit I like in Vista over XP is the instant search feature.
