I wonder if I could build a power rack attachment that does this mechanically with cables. Something that applies a brake based on pully wheel speed or acceleration?
2 pullies, cables that can attach to the ends of rhe bar with a clip and a very very lite counterweight to retract the cables on the positive motion. Maybe something akin to a yoyo fish trap.

It looks like you can go to failure but I don't think by looking at the video that it can spot you like a real person to the point of getting one or two last reps with little help.looks like once the bar hits the machine it stops.I could be wrong

I have a fitness store in my area that sells machines with heat activated solenoids in the bar. It senses the heat from your hands while gripping the bar which releases the solenoids allowing the bar to move up and down during your set. Once you open up your hands the solenoids immediately lock out the bar basically allowing you to hit failure without a spotter. They had em for barbell as well as a dumbbell set up. I was amazed by it, but also the price tag. They were selling these particular machines for $8000.

For the fellas here with home gyms that want to bench press till failure.... I found this awhile back and contributed money to this fella to help him get his design up and established. It’s a neat and very simple concept. It’s called the Maxx Bench. It has a nice price tag but nothing stupid! They have created new designs as well.
