Working legs and arm size

I've noticed that everytime I work my legs, my arms increase maybe 1/8th inch in size. The size increase appears to be temporary. I don't use my arms in anyway when I work my legs, so they aren't pumped or anything. Has anyone else noticed this?
 
you don't use your arms when you squat? lolwhat
 
Funny you say that because I notice the opposite...I feel that my arms get smaller when I am blasting legs. As if the blood is all moving to my legs so I look/feel deflated elsewhere.

Btw, I drink plenty of fluid, eat a good meal 1hr pre workout and also use pre, intra and post workout shakes so I know that I am not lacking in nutrients. Weird how 2 people can have completely different results, lol! :)

I get the same thing. :eek:

When training legs, there is a demand placed on the body to increase blood flow. The blood stored in the spleen, enters the blood stream during the active phase of the exercise and the recovery phase in between sets. The larger the muscle group being worked, the greater the demand for additional blood flow. This blood flow enters the blood stream, which is flowing throughout the entire body and would be responsible for the "pump" and/or any temporary muscle size.

It is probable that one may experience a decrease in whole body muscle size and/or pump during an intense leg work-out. If that be the case, I would consider consuming more water, especially before and during a work-out.

Yes, I have noticed this. Dont know why it happens though.

I also noticed that when I do the 20 rep, heavy breathing squats, I get bigger all over, and if I am eating good (and enough), the size is more permanent.

EVERYTIME I diet I make sure to squat, it helps me keep my size much better than not squatting while dieting, and also when bulking I get bigger , faster and stay that way as long as I squat while bulking. I gained most of my size by squatting a lot. ( high reps, low reps, med reps)

Me too.... In fact, i attibute much of the size i was able to maintain after going off hormones last year due to squatting heavy every week...sometimes 2 x a week. There is no substitute in my mind.

it really is insane hitting squats hard you can almost watch overnight your body overall growing from them.
 
Good thread, got me excited about tomorrows leg workout.

I would think that because squats involve pretty much your entire body (lower back, abs, shoulders, arms, all used as stabilizers) the result is a higher amount of GH release, and maybe testosterone as well. The result being faster recovery and better gains.
