i just recently reinjured my lower back L-4 area of the lumbar , i was doing 365lbs stiff legs and on my 9th rep it fucking popped i continued my workout not realizing i was gonna be Fd up in the morning .

this isnt the 1st time its happened in fact ive been dealing with this for 2 years , ive had xrays mri's and even cortizone site shots the max of 3, none which have worked and i must agree i havent takin the docs advice to lay off , so im wondering what other solutions are there cause at the moment im using vikaden and vioxx this seems to be just a bandaid any advice can only help but im not gonna take time to rest so what are my options?

thanks, V. V

No clue, I'm waiting on MRI results myself right now... Doc has me laying off of all lifting for the last 10 days, and wanted to give me a shot, but couldn't because of some things she saw in the x-ray. I'm on vioxx and flereril right now, and like you said, just a band aid. It's been at least 5 weeks for me so far, took a 5 days off at one point (vacation) with no change, and now the last 10 days off

Injuries

Crazy stuff. I hurt my back about 4 weeks ago in the gym doing legs. My strain is in the left lowerback/hip area. I figured is was just a minor muscle pull and would go away in a few days, but the pain persists. It hurts me to bend over and tie my shoes. I'm still training but have had to cut back on the weight I use. Leg exercises like squats and leg presses I've had to totally avoid. Guess I'll see a doc if things are'nt better in a few weeks, but I'm sure all they will offer is the same pain killer/muscle relaxer protocol. Maybe I should see a chiropractor instead?

I'm liking that I went to a back specialist, as they took x-rays in the office and were ready to do whatever that day (injections or whatever), except that there were some things she didn't like with the x-ray, so ordered up an MRI.

She said if it doesn't go away in like 3 weeks, it's probably not just mucular. She also said that my idea that working out without a belt is actually better because it makes everything stronger is right on... Finally, she said deadlifts and leg presses are out with this type of injury since the back is in such a vulnerable position with the legs straight and bent at the hips, I guess. It was funny, as I pressed submit before, the dr's office was calling to remind me of my follow up.

you may need surgery. They shave off the protruding, hardened fluid from inside the disk to keep it from pinching the nerves that cause the pain you feel. I hernited a disk (L5 I believe) in high school. but never had surgery. I played football at the time and had to take 3 months off of training. I was fine until about a month ago it started to bother me again, but subsided after a week. Eventually, I'll prolly need surgery. I believe recovery is approx. 2 weeks, so not too bad. I think stiff leggeds are what brought it on again though, I go as high as 495 for 10 and I think the stress overtime re-aggravated it.

Find a chiropractor who uses the Cox Traction Technique and get some deep tissue massage work.

find a good chiropractor-they should be able to fix the problem

Chiro

yup thats what im doing in about 30 minutes , going to the chiropractor and getting that electric shock shit done also reajustment and stretch machine , i really thought chiros were out for the money and it was a bunch of horseshit but i went the other day and holyshit it fucking worked for about 3 hours until i did bent over rows lol then i was right back in the saddle again , this has been a real pain in my ass literally but im not gonna stop training cause the more i train the more the pain slowly subsides or maybe im becomming amuned ha in any form this sucks ass , but i do beleive that Jaw breakerkid is right surgery is definetly a must but not until this ride is over like maybe when im really old like 35 or something lol.

thanks guys if ya got anymo advice please let me know, V.V

Here's a collective FUCK YOU from all us 35+ old farts  :D :p ;)

Agree with others - surgery is probably the only solution, but that can be a slippery slope, esp. if the first surgery doesn't do the trick. Chiro is good if you get the right guy. Oh and take it easy on the vicodan, that shit is addictive.

Vander, I'm not sure if you have cyatica (sp?) from the dick pinching your cyatic nerve, but have you had problems with one leg being a little less devloped than the other? My left leg is not as full as my right, it's odd. I'm thinking it's due to the pinched nerve. My left leg is as strong, but the fullness isn't there like I said.

Vander

I hurt my back doing bent over rows in the summer time. I went to the chiropracter and one of my lowest vertbrae cracked. It was also shifting forward slightly too (said this was from along time ago).

The doc said i coulda have caused this from lifting at a young age, he says he sees it alot in young girls who are gymnasts.

He told me not to any bent over rows, squats, or deadlifts or anything like that but there was no way i was gonna listen to that.

It bothered me really bad for a long time and I think its about as healed as its gonna get now.

For me, I can no longer do free weight bent over rows. It just hurts too bad. I do them on the smith b/c it takes the pressure off my back a lil bit. I also have to sacrifice a lil bit of form and not bend over quite as far. Deadlifts are out the question as well, and i have to use free weight squats sparingly

This really sucks because i'm only 21..22 in a couple months.

I don't think you should just keep pounding away at it and think u will become immune to the pain. Try to take a lil bit of pressure off that area where you can. such as doing the rows on a smith or using hammer rows or something of that nature. that might not be what you want to hear but It might only take one injury to really set you back or put you out permanently.

good luck man

Dude dont use vicodin its from the opiate family and it doesnt help with protein synthesis at all. If pain is that bad my advice would be to smoke a joint.

VANDER.....

I HAVE A SHORT TORSO AND LONG LEGS....I HAD NEVER HAD ANY BACK PROBLEMS. I THINK BEING BUILT LIKE THIS HAS HELPED PREVENT SUCH PROBLEMS. ANYWAY......LAST YEAR I WAS DOING BARBELL ROWS WITH 320LBS....THIS WEIGHT USUALLY PRESENTS NO PROBLEMS FOR ME. I HAD DONE SQUATS TWO DAYS BEFORE THAT AND MUST HAVE HAD SOME RESIDUAL FATIGUE. I WAS ON MY FOURTH SET....AND I BROKE FORM JUST SLIGHTLY, AND WHAM! IMMEDIATELY I SANK DOWN TO MY KNEES....I COULDN'T EVEN TAKE A DEEP BREATH! THE NEXT THREE DAYS SUCKED...ONCE I SAT DOWN....IT WAS HARD TO GET UP...I HAD TO LURCH OUT OF MY CHAIR AT SCHOOL.....I'D WALK DOWN THE HALL..<ABOUT FOUR STEPS AND HAVE TO LEAN ON THE WALL. I'D NEVER GONE TO A CHIROPRACTOR CAUSE I THOUGHT THEY WERE QUACKS. WELL, I WENT, GOT A TREATMENT AND IMMEDIATELY FELT BETTER....I COULD BREATH, WALK UP AND DOWN STAIRS! I FELT GOOD AGAIN. I THINK THIS COULD BE THE ANSWER.

I heard this happened to ronnie a few years back. He had a pinched nerve in his back and it lead to one of his quads becoming under developed.

fuck it

ah fuck it i always liked golf better , i guess ill join the tpc of scottsdale heard the clubhouse makes a mean turkey and ham club sandwhich , what the fuck am i saying golf would only fuck it up more all that twisting and hip movements , im better of joining a bocchi ball group at the old folks home , seriously this has been going on 2 yrs plus and it comes and goes nobodys got the answer id just say the body was built wrong in this area ,like i said every morning my girl puts my shoes and socks on for me lol soon she be changing my depends, i feel like im really old like maybe 35 or something ha , though i train right through it even increasing the weight i swear its the only cure that and vicodin plus vioxx , i did chest the other day and becnhed pressed 275 for 24 reps like it aint no thing and squatted 405 on the smith for good reps but come hammy day im like leg curling only 145lbs and it blows my fn back to pieces not to mention stiffys,

some guy said something about a shot called Neuroblock it was used in earlier years and he said it cured him 100% anyone ever heard of this

and if that doesnt work well im gonna hit the bocchi ball old folks championship and try to go pro.

Yeah 35 old watch it still keeping up with the young bucks and then some my friend. As far as the vicoden is concerned I dont use rec drugs but if the pain you are going through is imense and hurts you alot by all means use it. As long as you use the vic properly you should not become addicted when you just pop them because or think you will need them to stop pain then you could run into problems good luck wish you a speedy recovery.
