You Don’t Need Special Food To Gain Mass!

More than likely you’ve been told or have read over and over again that in order to gain serious muscle weight you “must” eat a very high protein diet….you “must” use certain supplements….you “must” avoid sweets, like chocolate candy bars…etc., etc.

So, then, why is it that you have literally millions and millions of dedicated individuals that follow all of these “bodybuilding / hardgainer / muscle mass” diets to the letter, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, yet when they look at themselves in the mirror, they still look no different???

Everyone seems to think that is how all the pros do it.

That’s the “correct” way of eating to gain muscle weight.

Well, if that were the case, why aren’t we seeing any results from that sacrificial, monk-like form of eating?

As I’ve stated in many articles time and time again, don’t follow what you read….follow what you observe.

Read that last sentence again.

It may be one of the most physique-changing sentences you’ll ever read.

It sure was for me.

Why do I say that?

Well, become someone that observes what those that have had success do, not what’s politically correct or what the popular thinking is.

See what people are actually doing in the real world to gain muscle.

Then, imitate it.

Case in point:

Mariusz Pudzianowski, multiple-time World’s Strongest Man Champion, and probably the most well-built, muscular, ripped, in-shape champion (if not the most well-built), is a perfect example of what I’m talking about.

Not only does this man have the strength of an ox, but he has the ripped, defined, muscular look.

That’s very, very rare in the world of Strongest Man competition.

Most powerlifters are very large in overall size, and extremely strong, but they are also very fat.

Most don’t have any visible muscle definition.

A lot of them have humungous waist lines, especially when you get into the heavy weights and super heavy weights.

But to see someone the has the best of both worlds, a ton of muscle along with very low amounts of body fat, while being extremely powerful, is very rare.

In a recent Flex Magazine issue, they detail some of the top World’s Strongest Man competitors.

With Mariusz, they ask him how he eats and trains.

What does he do to have the muscle and strength that he possesses, which is down right phenomenal.

(By the way, this guy is 6? 1? in height, yet weighs an unbelievable 320 pounds….all while showing off very defined muscles and abs!!!)

What he says about his eating is straight up eye-opening….and myth-busting.

I quote him directly, from Flex Magazine,..

“My energy comes from my diet.

Breakfast is 10 eggs and two to three pounds of bacon.

Between meals, I eat lots of candy.

In the morning, it will be several 3 Musketeers and / or Snickers bars; I need them for energy.

Lunch…is a double meal of a Polish pork chop, sauerkraut and potatoes….then…more chocolate.

…….At 3 or 4 am, I wake up and have more chocolate…”

Now, he does also mention that he has a couple of more meals containing meat, sauerkraut, potatoes, and……more chocolate.

But what I want you to see is that he eats chocolate candy bars all day long, even in the middle of the night.

He’s not big on drinking a bunch of protein powders or shakes.

If you look at it, his diet is high in protein, high in carbs, and high in fats.

Look at it.

Two to three pounds of bacon everyday!

(Gee, and I thought bacon was a big “no-no”, at least according to the internet and mags).

Yet, everyone says you have to have high protein, low to moderate carbs, and no sweets on a regular basis…..”because it will sabotage your bodybuilding goals”.

Yeah right!!!!!

This is just one of the many examples that goes to show that overall calories, not dividing your eating into specific ratios or percentages, or avoiding eating things like candy bars on a regular basis, or eating high fat foods like bacon, is what really matters if you are looking to gain some big time muscle weight.

He does look good on the outside. If that is truly his diet, I wonder how his arteries look?

Razor, I have a question for you.

It is IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE A DIET HIGH IN PROTEIN, HIGH IN CARBS AND HIGH IN FATS. Were you under the impression that a bodybuilding diet had to be high in protein, low in carbs and low in fats? It just wont work.

yea you can eat like that as long as you throw in alotta t3 and gh. he also runs several miles a day and trains multiple times so from a calorie standpoint that would not be a factor. would love to see what his bloodwork looks like.

I just thought it was an intresting article to create some discussion and get others thoughts on this.

Phil why do you say its impossible to have a diet high in protien, carbs and fats?

Being a natural i can never gain on a high protien diet. I need carbs at about 60% ,protien moderate and saturated and monosaturated fats ( PB, Almonds,Olive oil) to keep test levels elevated.
My problem is i do have a bad sweet tooth and it gets the best of me.
The only six pack i have is the one in my fridge.

i dont know phil i see some 400lb + women where i work and i think the high protein, high carb, high fat diet is indeed very possible:D

If you train with big weights, compound movements, and you also do some form of interval training, and you have a 40% protein 40% fats 20% carbs diet (with the carbs in the morning and post-workout) you will have a lean, muscular body, and I don't care if you're natural or not.

Constantly high insulin levels will fuck up your health, body composition and power.

I would also argue that the way Mariusz eats has more to do with cultural influence (in this case, European foods and sweets for "energy - his influence being both traditional and modern) than with the ideal diet for mass and power.

As I was saying, in order to write such an article, you have to be depressed (because of lack of success in the gym and high fat %) and stupid. Because motivating your own toxic habits with articles that you write yourself is stupid.

Great point. Genetics also play a major role in your physique. Some people just have that type of luck and some don't.

suppose when he drops dead of heart failure AAS abuse will be blamed and not diet.

PS. not implying he is on anything just stating a typical media response.

Forget the whole genetics thing.

People who are seen as having great genetics are usually highly motivated individuals who live relaxed, forward lives, instead of the stressed out, toxic, snickers bars laden existances of most folks.

Why wouldn't you imply that he's on something, when he is obviously on a whole lot of stuff.

Do you really believe in natural, 320 pound power and cardio machines?

is there a "haha" in here somewhere? is your response that "genetics" have nothing to do with the fact that you are predispositioned in life on how many red blood cells you'll have through out your life time, what color hair you'll have, how much weight you will have gained in life, how hard it will be to get rid of the weight, eye color, future heart attacks, etc etc etc,,,????

Old science son, old science...

The new deal is that genetics are actually influenced by the environement.

And to comment on some of your specific examples...yes, hair colour is a more static trait, but weight gain and weight loss, and future heart attacks? Come on.

The nervous and muscular systems are extremely adaptive, and so are fat colonies. They will all have an effect on other things, such as heart attacks, for example.

I know it is an uncensored forum and we are free to give an opinion I was just trying to be "politically correct" in the way i worded the statement. Fuck yeah of course he is on a lot of stuff.

No, I personally dont believe there are any natural bodybuilders/weight lifters out there that could come close to this big guy.
Now I have probably stirred up the bees nest among the naturals.

very interesting,,,

We all know if you are raised by a bunch of basketball players you will be 7 foot tall no matter what your genetic profile may call for. Enviroment does play a big role.

Hey, good sarcasm. But it doesn't add anything to the discussion.

Thanks man.
Im to busy eating snicker bars and 3lbs of bacon at the moment to get to deep. Give me some time to digest all this.

Well then, allow me to go stare at my striations, that way I can tell you what you're missing on with all that bacon.
