1) megadosing fish oil (30-45 grams daily): I was actually stupid enough to try this myself, after a few days I smelled like fish, after a few more days my skin started turning orange and oil started coming out of my skin and leaking OUT OF MY ASS UNCONTROLLABLY.

2) he recommends 10 mg caffeine PER KG pre-workout, for a 250 lbs bodybuilder that would be more than 1,1 gr caffeine. I hope to God not too many people actually try this because some might not actually make it through their workout alive :D

If your fish oil is standardized for the correct EFA's in the proper amounts, you don't need 30 grams. He is referring to purified fish oil, which requires higher dosages.

As for caffeine--it is very useful pre-workout, 200-400mg will provide approximately 20% increased strength, that's a fact. As for megadosing, I am not sure what exactly Charles said, but those dosages you mentioned above are not appropriate at all.

Be sure to take in the 45gr of fish oil pre-workout as well. That way you'll also have the 'oil leaking out of ass' special effect going on when they carry you out of the gym on a stretcher. Talk about hardcore!
 
Anyone tried IV vitamin C? Drops your bodyfat in half in a couple of weeks according to Poliquin.:D
 
Another classic indeed. Although not as easy to do on your own. (I don't happen to have an IV drip thing standing around at home)

Just think of the newbie guys out there reading that type of stuff. It's scary to think that is sound advise.

I knew a guy that was very tall not built for bb but read alot and all he really understood was he needed to "get big" Just keep getting big. Well, he did that got up to 300# and as fat and unhealthy as any person you ever saw. Ate any and everything and trained some times. Plus he was natural. He realized the errors of his way and came back down to about 220# and healthy again,

What is it indicated for? Treatment for what? If it's used in hospitals there's research showing the benefits no doubt.
 
I may be wrong on this but I beleive Charles P. is a S&C coach for the Toronto Mapleleaf's. While that certainly doesn't make his writings and thoughts infallible, I beleive that puts him in a catagory that at least deserves a little deferance. He's a pretty smart guy. I've read many of his writings, by the way, and don't ever recall him advocating mega doses of fish oil. He is pretty much a low carb kind of guy and does advocate for higher fat in a diet but not beyond the appropriate macro split for a low carb approach. If I'm missing something feel free to set me straight.

I have had several vitamin C IV drips. Awesome stuff. About a year ago my doc loaded the IV bag with about 15 grams of vitamin C. Beat the shit out of the cold I had. I would recommend to ANYONE ANY TIME. And yes, if you try and take that amount ORALY you will have a fireworks show of diahrrea...;) :D

Vitamin C is extremely underrated. Taking around 2 or 3grams a day protects against disease, boosts your immune system, helps healing processes and overall recovery, and general health. Most products you buy OTC that contain vitamin C are way way way underdosed. Buy the tabs which are 1g a piece. At walmart or whereever. They are dirt cheap. 100 pills maybe cost 5 bucks.

Not missing anything steve, I happen to like him and his stuff as well and he's obviously succesful (if not THE most succesful in the business). But every once in a while his advice is borderline insane.

The megadosing fish oil was one of his recommendations a few years ago (and yes it was with capsules back then).

The caffeine thing, 10 mg/kg bodyweight. Have you ever tried this? Unless you're a stimulant addict like chris250 (sorry once again chris:D) you would be high as a kite and more ready for a party than for an activity that could lead to dropping a weight on your face due to shakiness.
 
As for mega dosing caffiene he does have a product called javastim and it has 225mg of caffiene per capsule and only reccomends one, but it does have tyrosine and phenylalinine so u dont get the jitters as he puts it. And i dont know if this is a high dose or not, but in regards to what he has supposedly said and actually sells well there u have it.
 
The Latest on Caffeine as an Ergogenic Aid

Caffeine is probably the most widely used ergogenic aid of all times. It has made many fortunes. Imagine the World without caffeine? A U.S. based prohibition on caffeine like they did on alcohol in the thirties? Organized crime would even get stronger, for sure! Here is what you should know about the latest findings on caffeine:

1. Its positive effects on sports performance mainly come from enhanced mood, reduced perception of pain, and adenosine antagonism.

2. For best results, capsules work better than tablets, and the optimal time is 45 to 60 minutes before exercise. Using a mixture of 2 ounces of club soda with two ounces of grapefruit juice to swallow them will increase the speed and the magnitude of coffee concentration in the blood stream.

3. For endurance improvement, only 1.3 to 2 mg/kg seems to be enough to increase performance, probably due to increased fatty acid metabolism and glycogen sparing.

4. For strength training, best results are seen once the 7 mg/kg threshold is reached, with 10 mg/kg being the upper limit where no further additional gains are seen. Elite athletes tend to respond better to caffeine than weekend warriors. Using coffee as your sole source of caffeine pre-workout would require an enormous amount of coffee. As in 6-9 cups for a 90 kg lifter. Capsules remain the best option.

5. Caffeine eliciting dehydration is a myth. Research studies show no greater change in urine loss or fluid when compared to a placebo.

6. Even though caffeine raises blood pressure short term, caffeine and hypertension are not related in long term studies.

7. The polyphenols in coffee improve insulin sensitivity, but caffeine in large amounts may negatively alter insulin sensitivity, but the jury is not out yet on whether caffeine use in athletes increases diabetes risk.




The Top 5 Supplements to Gain Muscle Mass

In many seminars, I always get asked which supplements are best to gain mass. My answers will surprise many of you.

Here they are:

1. Fish Oil

What? Fish oil? That is not cool, avant-garde, sexy, or exotic. Fish oil?

Yes. Fish oil. You cannot be anabolic without enough Omega 3s. For example, I was once training a first-round pick for the NFL. He put on 29 lbs of lean body mass in one month once I jacked his fish oil intake to 45 grams a day. If you want to put muscle on and lose fat, take at least 30 grams of fish oil a day.

Additional reasons for using fish oil include:

•It reduces inflammation.
•It improves insulin sensitivity: makes glucose and amino acids get better in your starved muscle cells.
Taking fish oil in a liquid form is the most economical way of doing it. But taking them every meal works best. I always recommend a combination of liquid and capsules - Liquid for home meals, and capsules for away from home meals.

I really don't understand the big deal about this caffiene thing... to most people, this is just another day...
i weigh around 93 kg... so that's 930 mg of caffiene... I drink 5-6 cups of coffee at work, add to that a fat burner twice a day that has 200 mg per serving if i'm cutting and you get over 900 mg...
for most people i know... drinking 2 or 3 redbulls at night, and 8-10 cups of coffee at work while weighing 60-70 kg... that's like 20 mg per kg.

what's crazy about that?
 
That's still somewhat spread out over an entire day buselmo, not all at once pre-workout. However you might actually beat chris250 in the stimulant abuse department :D
