Ok here is the deal. My back and shoulders are beat up, I suffered a bad parachute accident in the military which compressed some vertibre and apparently the wear and tear from heavy rucking, and wearing heavy armor and kit for many years has lead to me ending up with digenerative disk disease. I still lift heavy, but getting out of bed every morning is agonizing. It takes me a good hour or so to warm my back up, and at the end of the day it has had it. I have entertained the idea of incorporating some bodyweight exercises, similar to MAtt Furys Combat Conditioning, into my workout regimine. Has anyone else done anything similar, and has it helped. Also, if so you would you do it.

I was thinking something along the line of doing something like this:

HIT style Full Body workout (Power day) day 1
day 2 off
Bodyweight exercises day 3
day 4 off
Full Body Workout (Explosiveness/pump day) day 5
Day 6 and 7 off

Any thoughts?

Body weight training is good stuff! Chins dips pushups with feet higher than your back, ie up on a bench decline situps on a board. All good exercise. I also use a triceps exercise out of a squat rack. Place the bar in the lower tooth of the rack. In a close grip, hands inside shoulder width about a thumb width apart, assume a pushup position. Then just like skullcrushers bend in at the elbows and go in under the bar. Press back out using your tri's as the prime mover. It is awesome and will burn the shit out of em. I personally am not an advocate of full body work as I feel some of it leaves me feeling robbed of some training and takes too long to do! As a BBer I enjoy the one body part per day five day split. It still delivers great results and I feel I have accomplished something at the end. Looking at the schedule above I would try the bodyweight training a little more frequently than once a week! Good luck.

Hey man...I train very similar to this right now to get in shape for grappling tournaments. Look up Justin Garcia and BJJ he runs Jungle Gym in NY. He's a world class grappler. He's got an article up on line somewhere about circuit training and power lifting. You can also find a vid of his on youtube doing a bodyweight workout. Another place full of great info is Rossboxing.com there's also a few vids of him training at home on youtube. This guy is an animal. Crossfit.com might be another place for good info although they do some heavylifting on some days.

I do a powerday, a circuit training day (very similar to Randy Couture's - you can also youtube that) and then I do an explosive day, with plyometrics, medicine ball exercises, resitance bands, bodyweight exercises, etc. I'm not as big as before but I'm ALOT more "athletic" looking.

RLTW bro...

hey warlord i have had similar back problems due to similar things especially jumping the thing that helped me the most is going to a chiropractor and i can still lift relatively heavy with little pain
