An odd effect of my diet

About 3 months ago, I got back into the gym after nearly a year off due to a back injury. I have put on a good deal of muscle and dropped a good amount of fat in the past few months now. I was eating like crap before because I just didn't care. I wasn't working out or able to do much physically at all, so I didn't really watch what I was eating.

I am now eating 8 times a day. I eat very low carb and high protein to assist with muscle building and fat loss, which is going better than I hoped due to proper supplementation along with the workout plan and diet. I eat grilled chicken breast, canned chicken, tuna, protein bars, IsoPure protein and some vegetables mixed in here and there.

Yesterday, I was out running some chores and realized I wasn't going to be home for a while and it was time for a meal. I decided that since I had been eating perfectly for 3 months and was doing so well, I could eat one meal at McDonald's. I ordered a double quarter pounder meal, which is what I used to eat CONSTANTLY before and used to love. The oddest thing happened. As I began to eat it, it tasted like a big lump of dirt soaked in grease! I was wondering if they had dropped this burger on the floor before serving it to me.

I then stuffed some fries in my mouth. They were like some dirty, greasy goo as well! Only 3 months ago, I used to absolutely LOVE this stuff! I couldn't finish ANY of it.

Now, while the stuff I eat now doesn't taste bad at all to me, it doesn't exactly thrill me either. I make everything very plain and eat so much of the same stuff. It's not bad, but not delicious. This is why I can't figure out what happened. McDonald's food literally tasted like a big lump of dirt soaked in grease. Any idea why this is???

I am going to First because you have now adopted a healthy patern of eating and have not broken that chain, which is a great thing, your taste buds have changed some. Second and What I think is really going on is you know this food is shit. You know it is not healthy or a good source of nutrition and phsychologically you are rejecting it as such. This is to say your perception of this food has totally changed the way it tastes to you.

Its happens to me

Every time I diet for a contest, after the contest, greasy food makes me feel sick. I think its your body telling you it prefers the clean healthy food. But your body will adjust to anything to survive.

Whenever I walk next to a McDonald's anymore, the smell I get is not one of food. Whatever it is, doesn't smell appetizing in any way to me, and does definitely NOT smell of food.

I've been organic-only (95%) for 4 years now. I will not go back.

this is a good thing bro.
yah bro. this is something we have talked about many times in my upper level dietetic classes.

it very similar to why when u diet u actually start craving the foods you diet. well at least some do. its because your body has adapted to the taste, texture feel, macros etc. once it has adapted to a certain diet it really only wants what u are eating. if u all of a sudden switch it up, ur body doesnt know what the hell is going on.

this is why I like to advocate some semi cheat meals early in the diet that wya when u have a cheat down the road this doesnt happen. its easier to get back into offseason diet then back to on season dieting. well at least for me.

I had the same thing happen...

At the age of 16, I had some medical complications, I went on a diet of strictly raw fruits and vegetables for 6 months. By the time I was done, I had no desire for pizza, burgers, fast food, anything like that at all. Eventually I started eating those things again because of the convenience, within 2 weeks I was right back to where I started.

I also was drinking about 4-5 glasses of milk a day before I started that diet. I loved the stuff, couldn't get enough. Well, I am now 23 and I haven't had a glass of milk in 7 years. It doesn't even bother me one bit, I have no desire to drink it.

The human body is much smarter then we sometimes think. We you start to form habits (good or bad) the body adapts to that and gets used to what you are feeding it.

this is not uncommon at all, eating clean for a while is something u get used to and when u eat shit u feel like shit...i've noticed this as well, part of the reason i eat clean is because after doing it for so long and then eating crap i not only feel bad about it but my body doesn't function as well. This ranges from my mental state to my energy levels and i feel sluggish and my perfomace is not as good

The food items on your list didn`t include beef. There is a reason you craved the Quarter Pounder, even though it wasn`t the best choice.IMO over the long haul you need beef for best gains....maybe add in some LBA`s to your diet regimen.
