Anyone have rotator cuff surgery? What kind of recovery time?

I have to have surgery (scope) to repair a partial tear in my rotator cuff ( supraspinatus) Tues feb 26th. Has anyone had this? and if so what was you recovery time until you were back to full training?

i am worried about this as far as how long it will take to recover. I am hoping that i will be back to 90% by 4-6months.

any input on this would be great!

I have had both shoulders scoped... no tears for me at the time though. Just clean-up, bone spurs, impingement. I was back fast. I would think that 5-6 months is a reasonable estimate with a competent sports ortho doc doing the work for a partial tear.

It really depends. A number of factors: Your age, health,activity level. Type of tear. Location of the tear. How severe the tear is. How good the Surgeon is....etc. I spent 4 years as a Medical Device Rep and I have seen A TON of sports med. Some people have little pain a few months post op, some the pain never goes away. Not to rain on your parade or anything. It really just depends.

If you are Really lucky the partial tear is not full thickness and it will just be a scope , clean up, and close. I have seen ALOT of MRI's show full and partial tears and you get in there and it is not even torn. Then again. I have watched simple scopes and find a tear.

The way it sounds this is going to suck going through it - but it seems if you suck it up through the pain of PT you revover quicker and better long term.

So it looks like I have a new challenge for the net 4-6 months
